This is oldie’s… thought it was a sample tbh. It doesn’t really sound like a beat but if you chop it up and sample it then throw in this beat as an intro it will sound full. Fuck it I’ll talk, I’m a musician so I hear different things that most. The lows in this are not balanced and should shine more because the melody is in such a high range. Then raise some mid range or add in some mid range sounds. A technique to make the drums not sound repetitive is to kee the same kick pattern but change out one kick with a slightly different one. This works well for double kicks and makes it sound dynamic like I normally would sound when I’m playing the drums for real. You could definitely use a counter melody and even a counter for the counter just make sure they each fill in a frequency range and actually have a place in the track even if it’s only for 1-2 bars. Going 1/3 on highhats also adds some bump and you can use the same method where you use two different high hats like the kick drums at the end of every 8 bars. You have really solid styles. Most of great music vs good beats is the technique. I’ve made things that whole studio couldn’t do and tried to do then sent me the track and I made sounding fucking amazing and ya because I can tdo more with a 100 laptop and sum knowledge then that can do with 100k studio and no fucking clue.
