And that part where Mac told Felicia he got the sword from Connor. He lied, we all know he got that sword from late-18th century Japanese mortal Hideo Koto. I think by that time Mac held her true intentions suspect and made up that story to see if he could catch her out. And this is why no other woman matched Tessa. Felicia threatened her life. What did Tessa do? Scream and cry for help? Nope. She ignited a blowtorch and threatened to burn Felicia badly enough to scar her for a long time. And Felicia wisely backed off.

However, I think the story about the sword was true at that point in the series. Connor was Duncan's teacher after all. The writers came up with the samurai story later, creating a continuity error.

Duncan's is old too. It was given to him by an immortal in the 1700s which means it was also 100s of years old. And swords forged by Masamune are famous for their magnificent craftsmanship. I'm really surprised by the large number of people who keep telling me how wrong I am. It's strange that people are more likely to think that one katana could easily shear another in 2 than they are to think that the writers fucked up/were lazy.

Duncan said "a fellow clansman" gave him the Dragon Head Katana in this episode. Assuming it was Lambert's character "Connor" assuming. However years later in episode "the samurai" .. A brilliant blacksmith in Japan made that sword for Duncan's teacher in turn gave to Duncan on death bed. I always felt that the sword was it's own character in the series and movies.

The irony is there is no safe way to practice full out with sharp swords. Especially Japanese swords, which don't bend. There are blunt, flexible sparring swords for european swords like longswords and sabers (and of course fencing foils etc) but even a blunt iado metal katana sword could run someone thru. (my blunt one is as sharp as my sharp katana, whereas my blunt practice longsword is totally rounded at the tip) This is why for full out sparring while european sword practitioners use blunt flexible swords and protective gear, Japanese sword practitioners use shinai or bamboo swords as used for kendo. I know they are immortal and minor wounds would heal, but what if someone loses a hand or a foot? That of course is to say nothing of the damage to the sword...

Richie is actually an interesting character. Back in the day i kinda thought Richie was irrelevant, but over time i changed my view. Not only he helps to unfurl Macleod's character further, but he is engaging as he is, because he CAN get hurt, he CAN die (even as an immortal). Macleod, with all my admiration toward him, - but his "plot armor" is way way too thick, so other characters are needed to create situations that can expand and elaborate his personality to the viewer, making him interesting to watch. On top of that, he never really had a proper villain to oppose him - except Horton, who wasn't even an immortal. They should've kept him for longer, much longer. Or made someone new, truly challenging and imposing, who could make us feel that Macleod may be in grave danger, vulnerable. Producers' fault, not Mac's...
