I love your workflow it usually helps me out. only problem is that when it comes to drum samples, I can never get any one's that work for me.

try to fit your drums within the key. Pay attention to the fact if your track is agressive or smooth, so you can choose agressive kicks or soft ones, with a lower attack. Try to decompress your kicks, cut low ends of trembling instruments (hihats, rides, snares) and make them sound in approximately same amount of volume (around -3.5 db). Hope you can see answer even after 3 years =) Good luck
