Great video! You know Tessie, you DO help others out when you preserve your bounty. You share it with other people who need it. You also share your knowledge with your almost 22,000 subscribers (I still can't believe you have this many now!!), which in turn helps your viewers. They personally may not need/want to use the food pantries, but they then gain the knowledge of them and can pass that along to friends and family members who could use it. Thank you for sharing these types of videos. I love them.

Very good points and yes you do have to bury your pride and be grateful when talking to them. I have found when I go ( I am income eligible) that while we are waiting I talk to the other clients and they willingly tell me of other places in our area that are good places to go. Be friendly to the volunteers, the staff and the other clients and you will learn a lot everyone wants to help. I have gotten prayers given to us for our situation, empathy and its just been a good experience and truly a blessing from God. His grace and his mercy for us has been such a overwhelming sometimes I literally have cried at how much he loves us and is watching over us. My husband and I have worked our whole lifes and it was very hard to ask for help but I am so glad that I did. I now network with other clients on a fb page and am able to pass along what I have learned to them and show them ways to preserve and use the food we are given. Anna In Ohio.
@janetnelson4729
@janetnelson4729 5 жыл бұрын
Anna in Ohio. I am also income eligible and have been dependent on my local food pantries for a long time. It is important to be friendly and patient with the system. You can learn a lot from other's in line and also it is an opportunity to share your information on how to make do. I started a food blog to share my recipes for making do eight years ago because I got requests for recipes on how to prepare some of the items that was being distributed. I am still standing in line and still blogging. Here in Florida I found a lot of retirees that didn't know how to scratch cook or preserve foods. Being middle class all your life don't prepare you for making do. There can be a long learning curve to it. It is nice to know others are using social media to network.

You’ve put the worry out of a lot of folks who can’t easily put their pride in their back pocket. Church pantry’s don’t care about what you look like, what you drive or your personal problems. They are just GLAD to give comfort to those in need. Tessie I’m so great full you are doing this type of video. I see so many families out there struggling to feed their kids and even themselves. In your case- nothing goes to waste. You take what others didn’t need. You have the skills from Mrs Fanny to preserve what you got. God Bless you and you take care-as always I’ll see you tomorrow. Great video girl!🌹❤️ There’s nothing that hurts a persons heart than seeing a lil one hungry.

Good Morning Tessie, Brothers, Sisters and friends, TGIF HAPPY FRIDAY:) Well it's here fall has officially arrived. After the one hot day it has cooled off considerably. It may even get down to the 40's. The leaves are beginning to change color and a few have already fallen. The squirrels are foraging for food, birds are starting there long journey south. I still have many birds around yet and the cats hang out in my yard always waiting for me in the morning waiting for there food. Plants are still growing the Marigolds are still blooming though much less that before. Time to harvest the buds and start to put things away. I have been blessed with fine weather this late in the season. I do look forward to the fall watching the changes. Soon winter will be here and there will be snow. I can sit back and reflect on the summer and the good time I had out at the beach. Have a most wonderful blessed Friday my brother and sisters and friends:) God Bless you love you all :)

I'm going to the pantry this morning😁 They literally tell us to take more because everything left is getting thrown away! There are many pantries around me during the month that offer a decent amount of food. Some are better than others so my advice would be to check them all out and see which ones are the best to glean from. You could go to every one of them and really stock up and grow your food storage if you needed to. My whole house is overflowing with food now because of the pantries. The next thing I would suggest is to buy a large freezer if you don't have one. I bought a nice big chest freezer for $25 off of Craigslist and it has been a blessing to me for helping to store the food. If you don't know how to can you need to learn. Also I have gotten tons of canning jars for free and close to free from Craigslist. You will also need a dehydrator and you can also buy used ones on Craigslist that people end up not using and throwing them in their garage. There are so many if you look at a fraction of the price. I would also suggest to dry food a lot if you don't have much space it takes up a lot less room. You can even open and dry cans of food to make it less bulky. I'm currently in the process of consolidating and organizing. It takes some work but there's no need to starve and my church asks us to keep a year's worth of food stored for our families. If anything at all happened knowing that you have everything you need for a year is peace of mind and anyone can get it done with effort, ingenuity and sometimes help. If you are too old, sick, or disabled or even don't have transportation ask around and see if anyone can help or give you a ride.

I think so many people fail to understand that concept you know it's not just thinking of the day or the week ahead when you get food like this you can store it up for times when you do need it last year my husband was involved in an accident and our income is 70% less than what it used to be so this food really helps us in tangible ways sometimes people wanna make fun of me and say that I hoard food because they don't understand the concept I'm so glad that there are people WHO understand

We have a lady in our fellowship that has been coming for a year...I have not had to buy groceries for the last 10 months...she brings us the leftovers every week....Sometimes twice a week. I have enough food that our fellowship will not have to buy any of the items for our Thanksgiving Baskets this year (yes we will be giving 12 families a basket with a full meal in it....all the fixing and a turkey (also donated by hubby's work). Agree, the produce has to be gone through immediately and processed someway.

Tessie, funny you chose Texas to Google food pantries; I live in Texas. In fact, I'm in my 12th year volunteering at our local soup kitchen and was told that my parents were helpful in the founding of our local good bank and soup kitchen. Of course they would never tell that. Both were very humble people, gone now, but I am carrying on for them. 6 weeks after I retired. I joined my dad at the soup kitchen and am still there. Mom was going blind and did the food bank books once a week till she could no longer see. My dad packed the bags as well as doing the soup kitchen. I took him up until 6 weeks before he passed Christmas dad, 2014. He was also our Santa, was Santa before I was even born!! People in town who knew daddy call me Santa's daughter!! I wear that badge proudly. We all know God rewards His good and faithful followers. My dad served Him over 68 years actively as a minister and military Chaplain. I believe God let him pick his day to go home as well as moms. He came and got mom on what would have been their 76th anniversary!! You tell me!!🥰. Love your channel (s) and look forward to your new videos. I was born in Ohio and am now from Texas.

Our church donates money with several other churches to support a local “Loaves and Fishes” some of our church members volunteer to give the food out once a month and some more often. The food comes from a big food bank which gets donations from grocery stores. It’s not out of date food, but looks good and fresh. We also have what we call a “Crisis Center” where people can come get food, clothing, even home furnishings in case of fire or disaster, job loss, illness, etc. This is also provided by local churches. If people know their community resources, there is no reason to go hungry or without basic human needs. A few calls to local churches should give information where to go for help.

Helpful info. Also, things seem to be better for some but not all. Seniors and the young are most vulnerable to food insecurity. No matter your pride or politics your children should not be hungry in this country. Get help (even if temporary until things improve for you) from food stamps, food banks, churches, family. Sadly, pride doesn’t pay the bills or put food on the table. People should keep an eye out for a better tomorrow, but deal with today’s reality.

I've heard that after the farmers get through with the fields, you can pay a $5 or under and gather what the machine didn't.

Years ago, next to the county jail (about a half mile or so from my house) there was a large empty field. Some of it was used to grow food for the inmates meals, and there was a portion that neighborhood residents could “rent” for either free or a very nominal fee to grow their own produce. You would sometimes see some of the neighborhood children pushing their red wagons to harvest or work on their plots. Sometimes you could go through the inmate field snd get cauliflower that was somehow missed. We liked it at our house. Unfortunately, the fields were closed to growing crops, and instead were used to construct some much needed senior housing for our community.

Granny Prepper Great location. Also find a way to practice vegetable gardening, it is very important because when harder times come knocking on the door, it can save lifes. If everyone had a few tomato plants, how many would we all have?? A lot more then we all do now, and much better tasting too.

I'm so excited .. We are finally moving to our own Mobile home, it may be in a park but I'm just as happy with that.. Considering our rent alone is $1050 a month for a double wide mobile home, Plus our oil twice in the winter of $500 a pop.. We will finally be free of the high price of renting and never owning. It will be in Alquippa, PA which I'm totally unfamiliar with, but I'm excited to learn . It is such a blessing that I have found you Tessie! You are such an inspiration. Blessing to you and yours!

I WILL BE ON THE PHONE tomorrow. You are right Tessie. PRIDE ! I have never gone to a food bank but I am going to make the calls tomorrow. Its fall and I have enough jars to do an extra case of green beans. I may be too late. Working on red potatoes now. First year of canning!!!! I LOVE it. Would have canned much more but No KY ran out of jars about a month ago. I didn't know any better but I got 6 regular 2 wide mouth and 2 1/2 jelly cases. Im doing meat in wide mouth. Since I don't have cans for long storage I ordered mylar bags and oxygen packets. I love this. I live in apt but we each have huge patio and kinda long yards of our own. I grew herbs, peppers tomatoes etc. Was limited due to foot.😳 Next year will be better. ☺☺☺❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💕💕💕💕

Wow i do that too Tessie..i used to go to food pantry earliest i could get there and had to wait in line for literally hours and deal with smoke in my face and dirty ugly mouthed people and even fights at times. I also hated when i went in there and cause i walk with a cane hated to hear come on lets move the line move the line now and i was tryin my best. So i started goin like 15 minutes b4 they close and i rarely was in a line ever plus thats when Mr. Jessie would say ok yaw get all you want.They didnt want to have to pack it away for one thing. Plus another benefit is that usually bout that time a pickup truck would be there and sometimes bring in milk and fresh stuff like that so as not to have to freeze it themselves. So i love showing up right b4 close now when i go. I also go to a church once a month when i need to and another church 2x a month when i need it and have gas to get there(its farther out but have nice full bag of food plus a small bag of meats too). Even tho i get food stamps it doesnt go very far but im grateful for what i get and also being rural it helps a lot with fresh foods. One pantry was started by an 11 yr. Old girl now 15 and she has it goin on. Very into fresh fruit n veggies. Also has won or granted numerous awards of big $ for her pantry. Even Mike Rowe came and built her an outside covered place with lots of grills to cook stuff there. She does the kids backpack buddy meals and delivers to elderly as well. Awesome little girl a tough cookie running all that..all because when she was 6 her mom nearly died and if it wasnt for community n neighbor help theyd have starved. Her mom recovered and told her theyd have to pay it forward and this is how she wanted to do it...And been doing it ever since. It is a way away but at times worth the trip.

Very informative video and this might be a great help for some people, Over here those place have very strict rules, and people have to show their income. And we have something else, I don't know it they have a similar thing in the USA. It's a bit like a thriftstore, but people in need can pick up stuff and trade something. Sometimes when people has nothing to trade, they ask you if you can help them. It has connections with the foodbank, and the foodbank has a very large garden and a few extra hands are always welcome. My income is decent, but still if I can save a penny or two I don't know a reason why I shouldn't bother. Some supermarkets are checking their goods in the let's say 1 or 2 hours before closing time when it isn't that busy (at least at my local Aldi). If it is coming closer to the expire date, they are putting stickers on it with 30% off. I don't know if this is a local thing (although if seen it in Germany too), but is worth to check it out.

@@HomesteadTessie I have googled a bit and you are right. Back in the day we had large TV campaigns about it. Even cooking programs dived in it and they made recipes with stuff that was from leftovers. The good news is that the USA set a goal to reduce the food waste with 50%, so I wouldn't be surprised that supermarkets overthere are following the same ideas as we have here. I guess it is just a matter of time.

@@HomesteadTessie the goal should be reached in 2030 (the same year as we should reduce the food waste with 50%). So that is very ambitious, considering the fact that that plan is from 2015. In the USA 30 till 40% of food is wasted for several reasons and that is a pity. It's not only that the buyer throw it away, but even before someone buys it a lot of food is gone. But the most easy way to save food is canning or put it in the freezer, so maybe in a while your channel is very modern when it somes to save fdod from wasting :)

Some counties have a registry for deer hunters, if they don't use the deer meat, they will deliver it to families in need. You need to be prepared to process the meat yourself - skin, gut, fillet the meat to be frozen or canned.
