The GS550 is finally getting some new tires in this video making it ready for the road! The old dry cracked tires did allow me to ride and test the bike just a bit but are not safe to ride on at all so I replaced them with some new Shinko 712s. I've used these before and they are fine for the intended use of the bike. After sitting 33 years this bike is finally road worthy being both reliable and safe!

There is a far easier way to remove the rear axel on a GS500. Remove the 2 vertical bolts at the end of the swing arm. unbolt the caliper, loosen the axle bolt (you don't even have to remove the nut) and the axel with the wheel still on it will slide right out the back of the swing arm. Sorry to be that guy, but I hope this will save some one some time. I do love the channel please keep the new posts coming.

I definitely miss my GS550EF, the full fairing version of that bike. It was super good looking, good sounding, and a great first bike to own. I’m tooling on a Suzuki S50 right now that I bought for $300 and stumbled on your page. Keep up the good work!

I had a shop drop my exhaust off from my 81 GS1000L.... Unbolted it from the engine.... I looked out and saw them doing that and asked why they didnt just unbolt the shocks? Needless to say they messed up and stripped the exhaust flange bolts.... awesome! Enjoying your content !

Every morning, with coffee, one of these ~ videos~, the "normal" Nighthawk manual should be here this morning and now taking full advantage of fb marketplace. I have a"cluster' of a Aquarium stuff. Really cool if you're into fish. Setting up my "Aquarium Corner" ~ $200.00 on marketplace. Also setting up two sketchy 9hp 4 stroke outboard motors with my 23 foot sailboat. Same thing ~ a "Boat Corner" ~ $500.00 on marketplace. A ridiculous deal. The boat's trailer is worth 2G. I do not care. I am now into "Motorcycle world." Period. Eventually I will sell my house. The whole pivot, BJ is these very special videos. I don't know what to say. Not kidding. (not gonna lie). I am all in! Thank you so much for sharing all of this. On and on and on. 〰✨🌸✨〰

I had no idea you could put tubeless tires on these rims. I have an 81 GS450L (with the same rims) and when I replaced my old tires I replaced them with tubed tires, which is obviously a HUGE pain. This is why I watch your videos.
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
HA yea easy mistake to make. If they are cast wheels they usually say on the side they are tubeless. Don't hold me to this but I think a majority or rims have that info stamped on them somewhere

It would be hard for me not spend a whole day cleaning those wheels, then end up taking them to the powder coater HAHA....new rotors while it's off....awesome GS. I just acquired a 1980 GS850G I'm bringing back to life....subbed!

BJ good to hear what someone you like thinks of Shinko tires. I had new tires put on the GS. The bike shop I did it at recommended Dunlop 404s. Im not as cool as you doing it myself. I love that you keep referencing this as a race bike every time you take something off it you don't like. Thats awesome. Don't forget viewers, BJ will sell you this bike for 13,500ish 😉
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 3 жыл бұрын
🤣🤣🤣 13,300 with the discount code "racebike" Dunlop 404s are not bad, but not great. They are stock on many bikes so they are just mass produced and a bit more for longevity rather than handling. Again these aren't anything special but I feel they are more sticky than others.

i replaced the dunlop qualifiers on my 84 magna with shinko 712's. it rode ALOT smoother & seemed to feel much better in the turns as well.i doubt the shinko's will last as long due to softer compounds, but for the price, they do well for my type of riding.i like them.

@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds Жыл бұрын
Tubes are needed depending on what wheel you have. Generally mags are tubeless and spokes are tube type. The tire doesn't care as much on if you run a tube or not. Lots of info out there on this subject for pros vs cons on either

How do you balance the tire.is there a mark on the tire to where you position it too
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Many manufacturers have a marking for where to position the tire in relation to the valve stem like these. That is not a balance though. I typically never balance anything as Im not out setting land speed records. For detailed balancing info check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGbbpWSZicZ2p6c
