I am going to definitely try this pattern ! I have been teaching myself to knit, and I have been doing kntting for the better part of this year. I have completed a sweater for my granddaughter out of the Wilderness knits book _ I started out BIG in knitting this is a bottom up sweater, ( biting off more then I can chew ) , I am having a hard time finishing the neckline, I have a feeling it will look a little funky but none the less it will be a sweater she can wear. I have completed two pair's of socks, and two hats that have color work from a Nordic knitting book. I LOVE color work, two stranded is my comfort zone, more then that and I get my threads all tangled. But, I wanted to knit a sweater for myself, and I wanted a poncho for myself. SOOO this is going to give me what I need. ALSO I like that the first video, you are showing short rows. Sweaters have short rows, and I had no idea how that was done. I think this will be an AWESOME project !

Would it also help to make a long ribbing that could be folded in order to provide a stronger "base" or a more stable ribbing that will NOT sag from the weight of the ponch? It must weight a lot for the simple ribbing it has now.

The weight of the poncho is more along the shoulders. I don’t think a double ribbed neck is necessary. But if you want more added structure you could line the inside of the ribbing “seam” with grosgrain ribbon.

Just a question. Can the colors combination be changed and the type of yarn? Can't do wool, it scratches my skin
