It's why I always researched the heck out of any medication prescribed to me or my parents. One doctor almost gave my mom renal failure after prescribing gabapentin for a condition it was USELESS for, in spite of her kidney disease which makes the drug contraindicated for her as a patient. It was on the friggin bottle "Do not take if you have renal impairment". She was just gonna take it because the doctor said so.

Usually this happens in the form of "Hello Doctor, we're with Pharma Company and have an offer for you. We're holding a seminar at Vacation Resort where a couple of our experts will deliver lectures about all the details and benefits of this new prescription drug of ours. We're willing to pay all your expenses for this week-long 'business trip' to promote awareness of our drug among doctors." And it's not even necessarily outright BS. They do, in fact, hold those lectures during that 'free business trip', and of course Doctors will have that new knowledge on their minds if they take that trip. There really are way too many new drugs coming out for Doctors to realistically be able to keep track of them and learn about them just on the side of their own tight work schedules, and such informative courses do serve beneficial purposes as well, which gives the obvious bribery enough cover of legitimacy to make it difficult to ban the practice outright.

Medical Insurance Biller 🙋🏼♀️ I've been sending, correcting, fighting for, fixing, receiving and posting payments for medical claims for 12 years. The insurance world is insane and disgusting and I hate it. I've been responsible for checking benefits, getting referrals for services, fighting rejections on behalf of our patients, sending appeals when services are denied for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. It's my job and I'm very good at it but I absolutely despise insurance and the Healthcare insurance world. United Healthcare refused to negotiate their contract with a local hospital in my area and refused to raise their rates a few years ago (they hadn't raised their rates for at least 5 years) causing one of the only local hospitals in my area to no longer accept UHC. I worked for an OBGYN and our doctors delivered and performed surgeries almost exclusively at this hospital. We could no longer see patients with this insurance, we had to refer them elsewhere, else they would have been self pay at the hospital for around $30-50k. And the kicker, UHC was buying out the smaller commercial insurance companies, becoming one of the largest health care insurance companies in my area. All that being said... murder is still bad.

We can fix Healthcare by getting government regulations out of Healthcare. Lasik has the least regulations is the cheapest surgery without insurance and is still profitable
@ANPC-pi9vu4 күн бұрын
I think every citizen should also have medical savings accounts that are tax free available to us, not just the managerial corpo class. It literally is cheaper in the end in my experience to just pay out of pocket and not have insurance. If you are concerned about the cost of catastrophic medical emergencies, then the much more clear cut and affordable catastrophic care insurance or hardship insurance are worth getting. I am probably getting the latter through my credit union soon as they have that. It's so much cheaper. Outside of that I'd rather pay $150 out of pocket at my doctor a couple times a year and buy my cheap generic meds out of pocket than pay anywhere from $400 to $600 PER MONTH for a plan with a high deductible and that nickel and dimes me with copays. Oh, that's another trick, btw... Insurance will claim to save you money on your meds by having a flat rate for generics, only for you to find out that many generics are cheaper out of pocket than the insurance flat rate. One year I had a $15 flat rate only to find out both my meds were only about $10 each. I saw one plan with a flat rate as high as $30.
@salemnightlark81613 күн бұрын
@ANPC-pi9vu agreed that's half the problem. Insurance claims having deals with hospitals doctors ect deny about half the cost of every claim saying it's an over charge. It works great until you don't have a deal for that lower rate.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I don’t make enough to pay that kind of money to cover others’ healthcare. I’ll stick with the insurance companies, even if the system isn’t perfect.
@frankcap25052 күн бұрын
@@leonnunhofer3453 so first off we have to mention that health insurance in America is Highly regulated by the government. Try getting health insurance from an out of state company. Second, nationalized full coverage is abysmal as well. They don't ever deny, they just make you wait 3 years for stuff like a knee replacement. My personal beliefs are that a hybrid system would probably work best. The government covers basic medical care. Broken bone, flue, cut needing stitches, preventative care. You take insurance out of pay out of pocket for larger or optional medical procedures expenses. Preventative care through clinics is actually more cost efficient than using emergency care for non payers. And people like to use raw numbers because billions sounds like a lot. The healthcare industry profits about 6%. That's in line with grocery stores and restaurants.

You know what could help this health insurance situation. Look at the supply side of health goods and services and find ways to increase the supply to meet if not exceed the demand and drive the prices down. When medical prices are within reasonable ranges the need for medical insurance decreases as you less of a need to cover the difference.
@michaellyle8594 күн бұрын
To bring down the costs we need to raise the supply, slash regulations and introduce competition in the medical marketplace with practices like price transparency. With things as they are, the supply will never meet the demand and the providers have no incentive to lower prices to a minimal level because the customer (patient) can’t threaten to go to a competitor for a better deal since they have no idea what the other doctor will charge.
@TheDefectiveAI3 күн бұрын
@ in this scenario the flow of the market would be determined by healthcare providers undercutting their competition to secure patients. That is difficult in today’s market since the overhead costs for healthcare providers ensures that pricing will be at a certain level to allow for profit. If you can find a way to whittle down the overhead costs, the rest will follow (less because healthcare providers will give up their extra profit, and more that other healthcare providers will take the hit to steal patients).

Hi, Canada here, for anyone who didn't watch thirty minutes in to this video to heard Nux say it: The waitlists are far more insane than people outside the country think, the prioritization is awful and often leads to death or further severity of conditions, the hospital beds are scarce, and alternatives for people who can afford them have been and continue to face legal challenges and government pushbacks. It wasn't even that long ago that they were attempting to shut down private clinics in Vancouver, because of course it was Vancouver. Socialized healthcare is great if you want pills to numb your shit--you can have them tomorrow--but for anything else such as critical surgeries it's fucking awful. Even going through 'emergency' at a hospital is hilarious. I was literally bleeding everywhere and needed like twenty stitches for a laceration but I just sat there bleeding for three hours while old ladies with twisted ankles went through the queue in front of me. Lmao. Sure with paid and private healthcare you are a number, but with socialized healthcare you're a breadline. That's just how it is.
@DuckGoat-mr9tu2 күн бұрын
I think the answer is to make public healthcare available and for people that want to skip queues they can go to private hospitals and purchase private insurance. That system works perfectly, nobody loses out.

@@DuckGoat-mr9tuI think you mean private, but then you run into the biggest issue: healthcare providers in Canada are paid by the government. If you're going to blame the insurance companies, you have to blame the hospitals and the government for their part, as well. This includes Obamacare and allowing insurance companies to "negotiate" prices. Hospitals charge you more if you have insurance than if you don't have insurance. This is because insurance companies negotiate a percentage of the total bill, so hospitals significantly increase their prices so they get the same amount of money from the insurance company as they'd get from you, out of pocket.

People make way too many right vs left assumptions when Trump voters are largely POPULISTS first and foremost. Let me clue y'all in... Obamacare only made shit more expensive in the long run, and only slapped a bandaid on a couple specific problems like companies refusing to issue insurance to people with certain pre-existing conditions outright... the rest was a gift to the insurance companies that they helped write the legislation on. The Democrats aren't saving you any more than the Republicans. Trump admin is a hand grenade we are lobbing at the establishment out of SHEER DESPERATION. A lot of people won't admit they support Trump in a lot of cities because people have been beaten or shot. It's not that we are dishonest, it's that a lot of Trump voters have a lot of different opinions and reasons for voting, as well as reasons to not be open about being MAGA.
