Free neodymium magnets! Yes, FREE! This is the sequel to a Free Magnet video I did a couple of years back. This time I am highlighting sources for some unique shapes and sizes of strong magnets including allot of neodymium magnets. Take a look around, they seem to be everywhere!
In true spirit of my "What's Inside" videos I am once again showing ways that I salvage, collect or recover awesome parts from stuff that others might throw away! In this video you will see over 20 items that contain neodymium (aka rare earth) magnets as well as other powerful magnets. Magnets shown range in size from smaller than an eraser head to larger than a US quarter. Some of these magnets are strong enough to cause some serious damage if you are not careful too!

Didn't to me at first either... until the first time I found one with rather large magnets on both sides of the closure... Now I seem to see them everywhere...lol

these are awesome ideas and here i thought i was the only one who saved the magnets from packaging. i super glue the small magnets i remove from packaging to the bottom of the cups of muffin tins that i pick up for little or nothing at garage sales to make magnetic part holder/separators for small parts and fasteners when i disassemble things for repair. that way as long as i keep track of which cup i put things i removed from different places in the device it's easy to know what went where, and if i should happen to knock the tin over or it falls off my bench, the steel parts mostly stay put so i don't have to crawl around on the floor with a flashlight looking for them.

I used some of these neodymium magnets to make a key chain holder , I took a piece of dark walnut wood & cut it to 12 inches by 3 inches , traced the magnets out on the wood about 2 inches apart in a zig zag pattern , carved out each place where the magnet would go & made sure they were flush with the wood sanded it very smooth drilled 2 holes in the side so it could fit around screws sticking out of a wall in a angle & now we have a place to put are keys & a little nik nak on . I used tung oil on it to bring out the lush grain of the wood .

I have bunch of earphones but I can't get the little magnet outof the headphone, can you tell me what to use to pull the magnet out of earphones?
@DialedInDIY
@DialedInDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they are glued and it just takes a little (careful and slow) prying to get them loose. I use a very small/thin flathead screwdriver or tweezers depending on the size. If they are larger headphones (i.e. not earphone or earbud size then I sometimes pry back the surrounding material first and then use a knife to work under the magnet)

Hey! You didn't finish the headphones before going to something else. I wanted to see if they were neos or ceramics.
@DialedInDIY
@DialedInDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Which headphones did you mean? Most smaller ones use the neodymium. After that you can make a fair guess based upon size, weight and cost. Ferrite magnets are often used because it is an affordable magnet material but it weighs much more than neodymium. On the flip side neodymium is much more expensive to use so you often don't find them in anything much bigger than your smaller stuff. The exceptions include higher end tweeters and your much more costly devices. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and post.

@@DialedInDIY hi, I meant the over the ear ones. I've been pulling monster sized neos out of speakers for over 3 years now. Like up to 1" x 1/2" thick . Also widow slides and latches and large door locks use biggies too 1/2" sq x 1/4" thick .
