@joansummers8737 жыл бұрын
He would if he left his hand for a couple of minutes directly on it. What interests me is if it would leave any visible brushing on the surface of the skin.
@esuelle7 жыл бұрын
The iron in our blood is linked to the hemoglobin molecules in it and is (un?)fortunately not (ferro)magnetic, so there's no meaningful force. Each hemoglobin molecule is actually fairly big and complex, but only has four iron atoms in the middle of it. Being in the middle of a molecule strips the iron of its magnetic properties that it usually has when in metallic form.
@SckharVawn7 жыл бұрын
nice answer esuerre, thanks for it
@soundguydon7 жыл бұрын
Not really. As strong as that magnet is, it takes a lot more force than that to mess with molecules in the blood. An MRI's magnets make this look like a toy in comparison, and they don't pull anything out.

It would probably make one of if not the largest and or loudest speaker ever, along with the most power hungry. Just think about the constant energy that would be needed to prevent the magnet form destroying the speaker on shutdown and the power needed to push/pull it safely. One last thing, the suppression needed to prevent the amount of electricity from going the wrong direction from the magnet going in and out of a huge copper coil would probably be quite hard/expensive to make or buy. Credentials: Self-proclaimed audio file (probably spelled wrong) and highschool student that thinks he knows everything. I am probably very wrong and I didn't do any research or calculations, just logical thinking with 5th grade science over electricity.

If you placed 2 of these so that they repel each other, how much force would it take to push them together and could they be used like a shock absorber ? - - Thanks
@xtnuser5338 Жыл бұрын
Well, they wouldn't act like a damper. They would act like a spring. You could do it, but it would be a difficult engineering challenge, because they would always be trying to flip over. For example, if you just put them in a cylinder, they would bind against the interior surface of the cylinder as they tried to flip over. You would need some kind of sliding ball bearing rails or something, to restrain the orientation without restraining the desired motion.

Or they ignore it and drive over a steel plate where some road is under construction and attach the plate to their car.

@brainiac757 жыл бұрын
With disc magnets at this extreme size, I'm not really sure. Big block magnets are used in some generators for wind turbines, but disc magnets aren't useful for this. My guess are some specialized industrial and scientific applications (lifting machinery, magnetic separators, recovery/retrieval etc.).

Wouldn't those applications be more suited for large electromagnets? And then things like MRI uses superconductive magnets. Maybe used to test items that need to be completely non-magnetic?

Around 70% of the iron in our bodies is in our blood and muscles as haemoglobin and myoglobin, respectively. The rest is also as various compounds. As most compounds of iron are weakly ferromagnetic at best, this magnet won't rip any body parts out of you.

I have a chipped magnet that I encased in resin. Idk if you ever thought of that, but if you find a resin type that's somewhat impact resistant (more than the NdFeB anyway) you might want to try to make a mold and put some of that stuff around a magnet... sure it'll somewhat weaken the magnet but that way you can have things come in contact with the magnet without the nickel chipping off or the magnet breaking.
@megamario13927 жыл бұрын
It will just Squeeze the resin to the sides, the magnet is too powerful
@brainiac757 жыл бұрын
It is a dilemma. I would like to protect such expensive magnets from chipping, but just a mm of resin would lower the attractive force quite a lot in for example a test with a paper clip in direct contact (more than 10% !). If the magnet is chipped, it's definitely necessary to coat the chipped area, but for an unbroken magnet I prefer to have it at full, uncovered potential :) Thanks for watching!

I love playing with strong neodymium magnets, but a magnet this big is really scary. Just watching a video of someone playing with it creeps me out. I would not want one inside my home.

Tholesund you don't want a nasty device trying to kill you in your living room? I love that he has it but not at all interested in having something so huge.
@davecrupel28177 жыл бұрын
John-Paul Silke its not really the size itself thats bad. Its the sheer power and strength behind it. A neodymium magnet's power is like.....its weight, times 100. The magnet in this video can literaly perform *FORKLIFT* work if applied right! That thing has multiple tons of magnetic force on it! You put your hand on that magnet, and something else gets attracted towards it, One of two things will happen. If the object is smaller, it will leave a hole in your hand. If it is bigger, you WILL lose your hand. These magnets are the ultimate nope-metal.
@cryptograndpa25567 жыл бұрын
The thing that creeps me out is that it's like a robo Pit Bull on steroids with no kill switch. You can't turn it off or easily remove its ability to accelerate anything to it. So things can basically go from bad to worse quickly if something goes wrong. . . Like using a crowbar to pry your glasses away and the crowbar crushes you.
@chrisf16003 жыл бұрын
Wow, that thing is impressive. Impressive and a bit scary. It's a bit like owning a chunk of a neutron star. Naive question, but is there any material they could wrap this thing in that would suppress or dampen the field during transit (ah - i see this is answered @8:32, cool). Also, how would you ever get rid of something like that if you get bored with it ? And is there any chance that it could actually induce electrical activity in the brain if you get close ?
