Free Nintendo Emulator, Delta, Launches on Apple App Store - IGN Daily Fix

In today's Daily Fix:
Apple has eased some of their restrictions on gaming emulators, and now the first big one, Delta has popped up for free. Sorry, we're not going to tell you how to get ROM's on you iPhone, but if you want to try it out, do so now before Nintendo inevitably comes for it. In other news, Rare has announced that 40 million pirates have sailed on the Sea of Thieves, which is great news just ahead of the PS5 launch later this month. And finally, Larian Studios has maybe one major patch left in them for Baldur's Gate 3.

Since the emulator itself doesn't include any ROMs, it should be perfectly legal under U.S. copyright laws. The reason YUZU got taken down is because they started making money off of it by creating a Patreon, along with potentially violating DMCA DRM. As long as Delta stays completely free and never includes ROM's in the download, it should be alright.

That has never stopped nintendo from suing or sending cease and desists before. Regardless of what country it is, nintendo is japanese and they absolutely hate and do not do or like emulators, hacks, mods, and so on. Nintendo is very hardcore about that and they have the money and lawyers to get them to do what they want. Delta just needs to have their own lawyers ready to defend themselves is all.

What do you mean? Delta runs NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, and DS. GameCube, and Wii are less likely sine they require JIT, which Apple doesn't allow

Neither was Yuzu, but with big money and courts, judges and juries that don’t know what games are beyond pong the likelihood of Nintendo winning is always high. Just gotta get the app before Nintendo or Apple do something

@@yicklemypickle8716 Yuzu was paywalling major updates and using stolen code to get TOTK running even before the game was released. Moral of the story is, do not charge or make money off an emulator project.

@@yicklemypickle8716 YUZU made the mistake of creating a Patreon to help fund their project. Since they were technically making money off of the emulator, that violates fair use. As long as Delta remains completely free and void of ROMs, it should be alright.
