Somewhere in the middle of all that is probably best. I would guess comfort and stability is key!

Interesting ! I have some rifles that like free recoil and some that like a firm hold . Idk , I just don’t enjoy shooting free recoil . I like to feel the rifle . I think wind played a bigger part in your second group . Thanks for the demo! Great vid as usual . I like that you use the CZ for all your vids

I think stock design has something to do with shooting free recoil with an adjustable front rest.

Enjoyed the video. It appears loading may have produced a slightly tighter group, but 7 out of 10 in the same hole was very impressive. Couldn't help but notice the larger diameter pill casing on the table!! Enjoy!!

Ya I was thinking the same like this is awesome other than the 3 that didn’t. Those 9mm brass were from me testing a Smith&Wesson fpc a subscriber sent me to try out. I’ll have a video on it soon

Interesting experiment. I've always felt more comfortable with the preload method.

Me too! You definitely wouldn’t want to try this with a big center fire rifle

Good video. I think the more stable the front and rear rest are the better the results would be with free recoil.

Thank you for the video. I do shoot free floated sometimes but I have not paid attention, but I will now.

I believe the real difference of free recoil is without back support on PRS like style standing/kneeling barricade. It is very hard, to me, to have upper body perfectly still and with free recoil it is less of an issue.

I free recoil my CZ but i load up my Savage... the 457 seems to shoot best with minimal contact in my case anyhow... cheers.

I was surprised to see how many on the free recoil went in the same hole

I think the differance you are looking for won't be seen in those conditions, needs to be dead calm or indoor. The free recoil group had way more gusting wind going by the shrubs appearing in the field of view and the audio, the shot you called not wind was during a big gust, a split second after it peaked with the shrub appearing at its worst.

It seems that some guns shoot more consistently with free recoil more than others.

I like free recoil for bolt action but I find semiauto jumps around too much.

Good video. Being brand new to bench rest shooting, I've been struggling with technique and grip.

L would very much like to have you do that over again on a calm day and several five shot groups each way. Very good question but I think you need more infomation. Thank You, John

Ya I think I will I was limited on time and the conditions were poor at best but definitely going to look into this further

How much of the change do you think was from shoulder pressure vs head placement and cheek position? With the free recoil group your cheek is not on the rest for consistent position where it is on the second test. I've been playing with this a lot in the past year.. was shooting .22 and 22-250 and 6.5 creed with a free recoil style that worked for me. Basically do as you were when you load up and then just relax the shoulder till there is no stock pressure on it. The cheek stays on the rest with minimal pressure so that you don't get slapped by it but not hard enough to put pressure on the rifle to influence the shot. This works great for the low recoil chamberings but I would not recommend it to a new shooter Because... If you train this way you are going to run into trouble if you ever pick up one of these new 6lb carbon fiber magnum rifles. If you have shot free recoil all your life you are in for one heck of a learning curve and a lot of frustration. You will need to relearn your trained shooting form for one rifle which really sucks and will likely make you regret an expensive purchase. These rifles absolutely NEED to be "driven", or a 1/2 MOA rifle turns into a quarterback. Thanks for the video - I always enjoy these.

Oh definitely! I don’t think I’d even like to try free recoiling my 6.5 CM I think it would probably hurt plus you’d never see your impact and that’s 3/4 of the game is spotting hits and misses

That free recoil stuff is interesting for sure. But I agree with some others, it doesn't feel like you are participating 😢 do not enjoy it at all. I like having my hands and face and shoulder and toes all over the rifle 😂😅😊 Thanks for sharing! 👍

@@BROTUNED it is, I've only recently started shooting rimfires and I find it pretty hard to get good consistency. Weirdly I get the best accuracy shooting off my hand instead of a rear bag, not sure what I am doing wrong with the bag. When I am done with that I might pay more attention to the amount of preload on the bipod :D

I have not watched yet. But you don’t have the set up for free recoil. That is for Benchrest guns. That stock won’t work for free recoil.
