I threw out your high and low groups from each brand and averaged the 3 that remained. SK = 1.485 Lapua = 1.442 Definitely not worth the cost…for the T1X anyway. Edit. With the 3 group average, both still shot extremely well.

I think to somewhat normalize the data, the SK LRM didn’t have the barrel fouled in (lubricated - at least 10 shots prior to scoring), as we saw, it came into its own over the following groups. The data shows the group size average tended towards a 1.427 MOA (discounting the 1st group). The Lapua SLRM had the benefit of the SK fouling in (I believe SK and Lapua use the same lubricant for their ammo). Even with the “adjusted” SK results, the Lapua SLRM edged out for performance, but unless you are shooting competition, it’s not worth the 2x/3x of cost. Like you, I was hoping for 1 MOA performance from both ammo. It is interesting that when you pay for premium ammo, you are actually paying for lower SD and ES, hoping that translates to tighter groups, assuming that velocity is the only variable that determines impact (out of same conditions of barrel), that is not the only factors on shot accuracy and precision. I love seeing you shoot at distance and see real-world performance and through different rifle setups!! I look forward to your December 31/31 videos!
@BROTUNED3 сағат бұрын
Thanks I’ll definitely take that into consideration for the next test. I’ll foul before I shoot the video. The 31/31 has been a ton of work but I’ll get it done still have around 7 to make but also have over 1 month to do it. Cheers my friend glad to hear you are looking forward to watching them. Have a great day!
@stevenlee27803 сағат бұрын
@@BROTUNED Actually, if you don’t mind, I’d like you to include the fouling shots, just to see 1st cold bore shot and fouling in to see what kind of dispersion (as opposed to accuracy/precision) the fouling shots perform, just don’t factor it in the scoring. If the competing ammo that follows uses the same lubricant, then you won’t need as much fouling rounds to “season” the barrel before starting the group shooting. I think the coin flip is unbiased to determine which ammo goes first, but it would be interesting to see if the 1st ammo is not always the best “position” to be in ;-). Cheers!

Standard Plus all the way in my Bergara B14R, i've tries most of the SK offerings but none are better at grouping than the Standard Plus i've found. It's just good quality ammo at a decent price (compared to other .22 ammo at least). I have not shot any other ammo brands through my Bergara, why would i when i am totally satisfied with the Standard Plus? Nice presentation Bro, all the best from England.

While it appears to be a decent grouping rifle, it is far from being "most accurate rimfire". Heck, I have an old Remington 513T that still shoots 10 shot dime sized and under groups like it did in the 60' and 70's in comps. Through my decades, I seen and shot several 22 LR's that had no problem shooting those groups, and some even smaller. My brother's older Remington 541T routinely makes ragged hole groups at 50.

I’ve been kicking the tires on a nice bolt action rifle for longer than is humanly possible. I’m done and I think I want something with some nice wood , so I’m probably going CZ 457 premium. The only thing I’m not that enthusiastic about is the 24”+ barrel length. Some CZ models have a 20” barrel and Im wondering about what your thoughts are on barrel length for bolt action .22. If I wanted a competition specific rifle I wouldn’t select a wood barrel, and barrel length also wouldn’t matter. Is longer barrels a hold over from pastimes or something else? I realize this is and endless discussion, and the devil is in the details. None of it may matter if I find a cz457 with attractive wood and probably will shoot better than my ability. Thanks for sharing the lithgow , it’s a very accurate rifle, nice shooting!
@BROTUNED4 күн бұрын
I think a 20” to 26” 22lr barrel is best but that’s my opinion on it. I believe the longer barrel evens out extreme spread but I am also guessing. I think if you like it get rule applies here

You should try SK biathlon. Works great out of my B14R but nothing like center x. It's match made in heaven. On another note iv noticed this and it's a topic of intrest to me that I'm investigating. When doing ammo tests with 3 or 4 different ammo lots/brands. The first group of the new lot is always the best/tightest. Then when the mixture of lubs gets displaced the groups open up again... does this indicate a loose bore and the different lubs seals better ? Or are we better of mixing lubs all the time ? Maybe adding extra lub would have the same effect. Food for thought

Yes it is and with more magnification you can hold a smaller aim point.
@alfredrogers68455 күн бұрын
Why don't you drop the group down 2 inches or 50 mm so you don't obliterate your aiming point.. I never understood why all ammo/rifle reviewers don't do that.

Interesting. Mine is 715 grams which is just on 1.5 lbs. I've shot some pretty good German match triggers (mainly true two stage types) on 22s and the Lithgow compares favorably, but not in weight. The 'let-off" of trigger is at least as important as weight in my opinion and I've shot my best groups and matches with triggers a good bit heavier in pull weight than most people prefer. I was the oldest competitor at a match last weekend and won both the "un-supported" stages, rimfire with the Lithgow and my centrefire has a well tuned 1.5 lbs bergara trigger in it. I tried a Bixn'andy and a Triggertech Diamond in it and neither of these gave me superior score results. I think sometimes we can kid ourselves that expensive pieces of equipment will enhance our results, when in fact all they do is lighten our bank balance . . ..

I had a local gunsmith work on the trigger of my Lithgow. I believe it breaks at about 12 ozs. I think he made a new spring for the trigger. It is a pleasure to shoot now.

Shot in competition with rifles that had to have much higher trigger pulls. A clean break that is consistent is much more important than pull weight within reason.

The Lithgow 101 has a good reputation for accuracy but a poor reputation for its heavy trigger. Your factory trigger at 1 1/2 pounds is one of the lighter ones I've seen. Most come in at over 2 pounds with aftermarket springs available to lower the trigger weight.
