I have been looking for a long time for a cheap way to do this. After watching this video I checked out all your links and determined everything seemed legit. I had an old kkl adapter and ran the code in command prompt. Worked on the first try. So grateful for this tutorial! Thanks for sharing the love.

Thank you! You just saved me from having to spend extra money on an additional cable I didn't need to get the code to program my new replacement keys. (car only came with 1 key, and that key went through the washing machine by accident and killed the remote part of it. new keyfobs didn't click together with the old key, so just have to use the new keys and keep the old one as a backup that can't open doors via the fob buttons. Got all 3 keys synced up and working now! Thanks again!

Changing com port can be a pain, if you have disconnected devices reserving com ports you have to set device manager to show non present devices in environmental variables then change the view in device manger to show hidden devices. Then you can see the disconnected com ports to uninstall freeing them up to assign them to your cable.

Liked. Per ross-tech download, "The following applies to our legacy USB interfaces (HEX-USB, KII-USB and HEX-USB+CAN). It does NOT apply to our current HEX-V2 or HEX-NET interfaces. These new interfaces do not use a USB UART chip and cannot be be used for "dumb K-line pass-through"!. Yeah, I have the HEX-V2😞😞

Can you elaborate on what you are saying? Are you saying that the older ross-tech devices are better? Or is it a software issue? Or are the older worse and you need the newer scanners to pair a key to an immobilizer?

@@yashshah3743 ​ @JasonTaylor-zf6fo The issue is that one of the software functions, "Dumb K-line pass-through", is only possible via Serial interface - which a cheap cable has in the FTDI Serial to USB interface. The newer interfaces are direct to USB, the required slow older serial interface for this type of function isn't there

Thanks for this great video! Do you know or anybody else can I program my key immobilizer (Polo 9N) with VCDS? I've broken original transponder chip and I want to replace broken transponder chip in key with blank one and reprogram it with VCDS. Is it possible?

As I recall you need a functional key for VCDS to program a new key. There are some videos claiming that you can turn immobilizer off, but I don't know if any of them work. I suspect you'll have to pay a professional to fix this one.

@@tightwadtv3421 I have another functional original spare key. The first one just have damaged immobilizer chip. My idea was to buy a new blank transponder chip and program (adapt) it with VCDS. Other parts of key are good except transponder chip. Can I use VCDS to clone data from spare key to this key with new blank transponder?

@@tightwadtv3421 Well I'll try anyway! My local locksmith asks 100 bucks to fix key. I think it's too much because I have working spare key, vcds cable and just need to fix immobilizer chip issue...Blank immobilizer chip is about couple bucks and with little luck with your tutorial I could fix it literally for nothing. Only afraid of damaging spare key with bad VCDS settings and make myself without any of 2 keys and can't start the engine at the end of operation...

I believe it is supposed to work with other cables as well. It's my understanding that it should even be easier, because you won't likely have to set up the virtual port.

You should read more on the TDIclub forum thread for kw1281test, and it better describes the cable required, with (NON-referred Amazon links) to cables that work. For windows, many inexpensive cables work. For linux or macOS (yes, it works on ALL major OSes), more specific cables are required, because of the underlying way macOS and linux communicate with the OBDII cables.
