Not the best quality BUT wanted to share with my fellow climbers! Alex is such a great climber and a great person overall. Love the guy. Whats your favorite part of the documentary? or when do you plan to see it?

What a great guy, His brutal honesty makes him really endearing, and he's hilarious. 👍😊

Totally. Mark Synnott talks about how he and others like Jimmy Chin (in projects long before the documentary) experienced this paradox when they were first getting to know Alex - even when he was being infuriating, he was still lovable. I think most people sense that he's inherently good and admirable even when he's not adhering to social norms. Just an awesome human being.

I almost felt like there was no need for a Q&A since the movie was so good at telling the raw story about who Alex is and what he's like in real life. Glad to be wrong, it was pretty delightful to hear his thoughts on how the movie turned out - being that it wasn't his goal to make the movie, just to climb El Cap. Thanks for uploading! Also want to take the time to say, your climbing videos are so straightforward and easy to understand; I'm happy to be subscribed!

** I also want to add that this was an amazing film. I bought tickets in advance for myself and friends for two screenings, since it was only shown for one week in Hawaii. I was so happy to be watching both times!

I have watched the Free Solo days ago in Stockholm premier, no doubt blew my mind, even though after seeing lots of trailers. What an honest, real, and great man in our time!

Holy wow! Saw opening night at Mayan Denver last week. Apparently Chin was to speak at the next show. All 5 of us climber viewers agreed: the last half hour our hearts were audibly beating in our chests. Intense!!!

I am French and what this person has just accomplished, because I doubt that he is human, is one of the most incredible achievements I have seen in my life, this documentary looks exceptional, I inquired everywhere but I did not find anything, do you know if we will be able to see it in europe one day, because it is only broadcast in cinemas in america for the moment; I was even ready to go to America just to see this masterpiece but the price of the flights cooled me down, so if you have information I'm interested, thank you so much.

Watched it at the Arclight in Hollywood. Don't think it was inside the dome tho. My first time there too.

an important message for those who, like me, are eager to see this masterpiece outside of America (excerpt from Alex's Instagram): " alexhonnold Inspecting my gear on the way up El Cap...@jimmy_chin photo from the film Free Solo. It's been a wild ride all over the country for the last few weeks - huge thanks to everyone who's already come out to see the film. For those asking about screenings in specific cities (or Europe, or Canada, etc) - be patient, it's expanding each week. And eventually it'l be on TV and streaming online. But it's definitely way better to see on the biggest screen possible - you have to do El Cap justice! "

Haha, the host keeps saying Jimmy's last name wrong. It's Chin not Chai.

Lingfu Zhang Chai is Jimmy’s wife and also co-director of the movie.

Actually saw the movie here after I got back from Mallorca. The theatre was full of old people. lol. I think that there was a seniors' discount. But what a great documentary, and what an accomplishment. Did anyone else see his girlfriend's face at the end when he was just beaming from thinking that maybe he would be the one to find the next great challenge instead of someone else in 10 or 20 years?
@gmakutube5 жыл бұрын
I agree with you - especially about the level of focus for the full 4 hours. If that film exist, I hope that they do edit it down to show a more detailed story of the actual climb. Cheers.

I agree! and thats rare. He has accomplished so much and still a really great guy.

Dude. You don't say what the documentary is - as if everyone is supposed to be so knowledgeable about climbing that they know what this is. Is it "Free Solo"? I thought that it might be "The Dawn Wall" - what are the odds of 2 climbing documentaries being released at the same time, right? I'm going to have to wait for both to be released on DVD or whatever because the odds of either coming to my small Canadian city are just as small as the city.
@pbamma6 жыл бұрын
g mak Nat Geo is syndicated in Canada no? Should be soon if so.
@gmakutube6 жыл бұрын
A friend said that they caught a screening of it the other night at a theatre "in the boonies" (well for me, anyway). That was probably it for here. Waiting for the DVD. lol.
