Great playing and kit! I always wanted the Maple Custom in that finish! Beautiful!

Thank you Zack! I see that you are drummer too, but it was 4 years ago. Cool stuff nonetheless.

Played my Maple Customs for 23 years before changing to my PHX. You've done a wonderful job showcasing their sound!

That's a very nice comment to read, thank you very much!! I wonder, what is the biggest difference between the PHX and your Maple Custom, other then the price? Is it really a much better sound, or is it more subtil? Thanks again Bill!
@wuffb Жыл бұрын
@@stephanmarcouxdrums4877 The quickest and easiest way to describe the difference would be like having a "loudness" switch on your maple customs and I don't mean volume. My maple customs had great range and strong mids . . . The PHX seems to have a natural "smile curve" eq which can frustrate your sound tech. The attack is sharper and the sustain is longer and lower. To mic my PHX and get it sounding right, I literally use FIVE moon gel type dampeners LOL and they STILL sing. I often play mine at outdoor gigs with nothing but a kick mic. Both kits are musical and true to pitch, but the PHX is just "sweeter" if that makes sense.

Thanks a lot! I don't really mix, I hit record, panning, little EQ and that's it. I think those overheads SM81 are doing all the job to get the sound that I want.

What is that amazing crash cymbal on your right?
@stephanmarcouxdrums48778 ай бұрын
You make me realized I should share a video about my gears. Everything is HHX Evolution, the crash on the right is a 16 inches Sabian Evolution, middle Splashes 7"/10" Evo, on the left there is a Ride 20" Evo, 17" Crash Evo and 18" O-Zone. Thank you for commenting under a solo!

I can tell you’re a Dave Weckl fan
@stephanmarcouxdrums48772 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! I'm a fan, well it's kind of obvious because of my cymbals, sticks, drums brand and position. In fact, his vision of the instrument and technique simply make sens to me and I love the Maple Custom sound. I must say that I did play matched grip from 1996 to 2012, I've never been in drum corps. When I was teaching drums for 13 years, not 1 student did want to learn the traditional grip... Not only that, at Montréal, inside that huge building with elevators, all I could hear from different bands or drummers practicing music was metal and double bass drum, which mean matched grip all over the place and big drumming without that much dynamic... All those things put together was enough for me to find motivation into learning the "Weckl grip", a big decision, but the way it did help me to fall in love even more with drumming and the snare drum is something unexpected. Now it's my main grip. I think it's a huge part of our identity as a drummer, even if so many drummers are saying they are using both, but the reality is the traditional grip is more complicated, more sophisticated, it needs more attention, more time, and the overall feel is that I won't bash my drums as hard as the matched grip.

Yeah well, he is obviously my biggest influence, especially after spending time on his online drum school. My goal is to be relax and having the best sound possible, doing everything myself and I'm proud to be where I'm in terms of sound and playing.
