You can make your formulas on the P&L sheet much easier by using this: sumif(Transactions!D$2:D$1000,A8,Transactions!C$2:C$1000). Rather than having to paste the text into each sumif statement you simply use the text that's already in the cell next to it. This formula takes advantage of the $ symbol to tell google sheets NOT to update that particular part of the formula as you copy it down the column. Each one starts at D2 and ends at D1000 while the A8 will change to A9, A10 and so on as you duplicate that down the column.

I recommend going into formatting and using alternating colors for rows to help see things easier. Data validation input has also changed and they made it easier. It pulls up on the right hand side and has advanced options for color coding and style of drop down menu etc. plus IF THAN rule options. This has helped me so much! I just wanted to give a couple of pointers.

I would say that you are a great teacher. I was a Bookkeeper for years in Canada but when I arrive in the USA I was lost in translation and I couldn't keep up. fking finally. Every bookkeeping tutorial I have found so far was about like very basic tips and constantly referred to quicken or w/e always some kind of software. Since I started my business it's like there are a million things all trying to charge you a monthly fee, and it's at the point where I'm paying so many damn fees It's difficult to even make a profit. So this I NEED to do myself lol. Sheets seems like a viable solution. Yeah it'll take me a solid day or 2 to go through all the statements and everything to get the data, but if I can start doing it on a monthly basis, shouldn't take too long.

After closing 2 businesses due to covid and using online accounting software, I am trying to open a home baking business and didn't want to pay the subscription fee for the online accounting software. Can I add my 2 cents? An alternative to doing the sum as suggested, you can use Sum(c:c) to add any amount on column c so you don't need to adjust the range. Great video!

You could also make the range dynamic by using a count function i.e. sum(c2:c&count(c:c)). The other thing would be to use named ranges so it is easier to read.
