This coaching is PERFECT for me because guess what.. I can finally finger walk starting on the first fret! The rolling, and as you say, without getting crazy, but using the wrist freely to move into the right position ..making that distinction hl changed my world from black and white to technicolor. I am so grateful to have you and Zak as my teachers.Always Jo

Very good...especially helps with awareness of the left handed wrist. Is there a similar exercise for the right hand (picking) wrist?

+zu0832 Hey there, you could do the exact same exercise with the right, or make up something that is more in line with the actual range of movement that the right uses on the guitar. But I think this one would be a good place to start. cheers, Allen

i also discovered this myself recently but i am using two fingers instead of one.

+edgilberto 2 fingers is great. I mentioned in the full post (but maybe forgot in this video) to do it with each finger separately, then every combination of 2, 3, and all fingers. Cheers, Allen

Very eye opening video here - first time I've heard of this concept - Thank you very much ! Just a question: I live in the tropics and every time I perform, I always notice that my left hand gets SO STIFF because of the air-condition. Any other technique you could recommend to help me loosen my left wrist in such circumstance? Thank you!

+dave marques Hey Dave, that's a tricky one. I don't like playing in the cold either. I do know that the more awareness you bring to your bodily tension in practice, the more able you are to notice and release it in performance. So I guess my only suggestion, outside of changing positions, or putting your hand on your neck (it's a warm spot) between songs, is to practice playing very deliberately with great accuracy and precision, and to practice bodily awareness as much as possible in your everyday life. Good luck! ~Allen

The C Clamp is not right. You want to be as close to a natural hand position as possible. Do you walk around with your hand in a C clamp during the day? no. I recommend Adam Neely's left hand for electric bass video.

The Legend The C clamp gives you a wider range of movement in your fingers. It's not the most natural position ofc, which is why people have to practice to get it right, but it is the best way to play a CLASSICAL guitar. Electric and acoustic guitars and basses have, first of all, a slimmer neck, which allows you to bring the thumb over from the side without losing too much mobility. Also, the guitar is held differently, the neck is generally more horizontal making it easier to sustain the position you are probably referring to. Also, you don't play arpeggios that much on electric and acoustic, so there is less focus on left hand mobility. You can easily try it yourself if you pick up a classical guitar and try to play with your thumb showing, you will see how uncomfortable that is, especially if you're playing more than simple chords. I will watch the video you suggested now, maybe you were talking about something else

Just met with a group of long-time classical guitar players for the first time (I'm a beginner) and one of the first things they told me was to adopt more of a C-shaped hand position to free my fingers. The Legend, you may be accustomed to playing bass guitar or some other form of guitar, which might not require the C-shape. This video is about classical guitar, specifically.
