I had so much fun sewing up this pattern. However - the sizing wasn’t an “off the rack” size match for me. I am an L/XL off the rack - but the measurement chart for this pattern put me in a 3X for bust and waist and a 5X for hips!!!! I went with the 3X and it fit really well. I am now in the process of sewing a mock-up of the Candice Babydoll Dress! I would love to see you do a tutorial if that - it seems pretty clear and easy! ❤

How did your top come out with the sizing you chose ?
@annieruth324 Жыл бұрын
@@kimberlyhashagen5621 the 3x fit me like an xl off the rack would - my measurements are B-43 W-41 H-44 ❤️ and I LOVED THE BABYDOLL DRESS!!!! I made it out of a vintage 60s style bedsheet ! Wish I could send a pic
@kimberlyhashagen5621 Жыл бұрын
@@annieruth324 thank you me bust 41 w 33 h37. I usually try to fit bust and gras down a bit so considering your measurements I think I’ll stay with the 3xl and make a Muslin. I bet the dress is beautiful! I use sheets from my thrift patterns I make. Some come out so well with the sheets that I actually end up using them as my ready-to-wear lol thanks for the response.

Thanks for this comment! It’s so helpful to hear from different sizes and the experience they had with the pattern. Sometimes there are a lot of inconsistencies in FREE patterns when it comes to different sizes. I feel like they don’t get throughly tested. 😔
@kimberlyhashagen5621 Жыл бұрын
I ended up cutting the xl after really looking at pieces. The top came out really pretty. I did take in the sides about an inch so think I will size down one more. It really is a nice top with a lot of ease so take that into consideration when choosing a size. Thank you so much for your time and effort on this channel .

So cute. Looks great for summer. Great idea on the hook and eye. I have one question, why do you sew and serge seams on woven material? I’ve never understood that.
@eloiseezra5194 Жыл бұрын
Thank you and great question. When you sew woven with a sewing machine the raw edges can sometimes unravel as you wear it. It’s good to use pinking shears, or finish the raw edges. I find it a lot easier to use the serger to finish the raw edges. It’s a quick swipe and I’m done ♥️
@annieruth324 Жыл бұрын
Sewing allows me to get a more accurate seam allowance and also allows me an easier fix if I have to seam rip mistakes. Then I surge for the raw edges. But the sewing machine gets my seams accurate if that makes sense.
@jbartrug574 Жыл бұрын
@@annieruth324 yes Annie that does. Thank you.
@eloiseezra5194 Жыл бұрын
@@annieruth324 yes this is exactly what I do with woven. sewing machine first and then finish with the serger.

We used to serge or zigzag the edges of the pieces before we ever sewed a straight stitch, of the pieces together. Then we'd press open the seams. I learned to do this in the theater costume shop in college. This allowed us to alter the garments for different actors for another show. But I thought it was such a good idea that I continue to do it for my sewing. And since I'm 61 now and I have garments that I made 30 and 40 years ago, I'm glad that during my mama years, I could take out the bodices of the appropriate favorites and then take them in again later as I got back down to my size. I guess the good thing about using quality fabrics and construction is you get to enjoy your handiwork for decades. Especially helpful if you are like me and like to wear classic, feminine styles that really don't go out of style. Happy sewing everyone!!! 😀❤️❤️❤️

Hi Deanna, for future videos is there a way for you to adjust your auto focus? The lens keeps going in/out of focus. Thanks!

How did you determine how much fabric you need for the pattern? I don't see the fabric requirements on her site, or did I miss it. Thank you.

I used fabric I had in my stash but if I needed to figure it out I would put the pattern together and measure it out if the pattern didn’t have a chart 😔

I really don't like dealing with that placket opening in the back. How would you suggest that I modify the pattern withOUT the placket altogether?
@eloiseezra5194 Жыл бұрын
I actually think the neck is pretty wide so I would maybe just widen it out a little bit more. Sort of like a boatneck and omit the placket!
@proudasiangirl576 Жыл бұрын
@@eloiseezra5194 OK, good idea. I also saw the same pattern with a V neck option. I think I may like that better, personally. The currently neckline feels intrusive, all the way up to the neck. Also, a knit fabric may offer more give (especially putting on the pull over). Do you think a knit would work as well as woven?
