My military job is Network Administrator/Engineer focused, and my civilian job is in Respiratory Therapy. I have been looking to transition to a cyber security civilian job. I think it is a bit of a misconception that compliance/risk analysis doesn’t require technical skills. You may not be managing systems but you must understand the technical aspects of the enterprise. You are likely going to have to conduct internal audits - almost to Pentesting level. You need to understand what is happening against prescriptive standards like ISO 27002 or PCI/DSS.

Excellent information. I used to run a qualys scanner about 10 years ago. I loved that product. I rarely ever endorse security platforms but Qualsys was far ahead of the other scanners out there back then. So if you can get a cert for it I am going to do the training to get a cert especially if it's free and I wish other product manufactures would do the same.

Just my opinion. If you can get the college paid for without a student loan great! However don’t listen to everyone talking down on degree. I can attest my degree which I’m currently taking in Cybersecurity with a concentration in Digital Forensics. And trust me my major and concentration courses teaches me hands on task. Such as what he mentioned in this video.
