FREE WATER, I Installed a Pitcher Pump on an existing well head.

We had an unused water well in our yard. Now we can use it for watering around the yard.
We do not drink this water. Always have well water tested for safety.
I bought this hand pump, pitcher pump, at Harbor Freight.

We purchased a few acres recently and found a capped water well there. I plan to drill a hole in the cap and install a hand pump just like you did. I hope my plan works out!

Sound good, hope it works out. Be careful of how you use a wells water. you can have it tested for water quality. Thanks for your comment.

Looks nice, but remember water and wood don't mix well in time. Maybe cover it up with a water sealant?

@@sterlingdewey I am working on making a fountain. Just an idea to further beautiy ypur good looking pitcher pump.Get a full size oak barrel, new or used leaks or not.run the pipe you hid through the barrel and mount the pitcher pump on top.The barrel can be costly or cheap.Good luck!!!!!!!! call or ask Billie Gee

looks great. i was wondering if you were thinking about doing stone around it instead of wood? might be sturdier and more long lasting? but anyway thats great to have in the middle of the yard and i bet will inspire you to do more plantings.

Did you say five quarter boards, 5/4? Like an inch and a quarter or 1.25?

Hi, 5/4 lumber is lumber that was rough cut to 1.25 inch. When it is finished planed, as you would get at a retail lumberyard, it will measure 1 inch. It is decking lumber for decks and steps. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

A week or so ago I had my well guy install a pitcher pump, with backflow preventer, teed off the pipe running to the well house where the pump is. I'm here in Florida and, unless that pump is covered somehow, all kinds of insects, frogs and oak tree debris is going to fall or crawl into the chamber where the piston rod moves up and down. The well guy didn't have too much of an opinion other than to note that, if covered, the cast iron would likely rust more. Any thoughts on whether it's necessary to cover the chamber and block the spout with a plastic bag between pumping it weekly to keep the seals wet?

@@bacon10211 The pump was about $125 and they charged me $180 to install it. They teed off the pipe between the well head and my equipment shed. Took them an hour or so all told. I'd built a simple stand using a 6x6 post with 2x6 "stringers" which the pump is bolted to.

1 1/4" female threads on the inlet of the pump. I have the same pump and just got it reduced down to 3/4" to match the pipe going into the well. Very simple to install and works great.
