What's funny is that the lyrics aren't even incorrect. Calvinists believe we come to God by choice. (ie, we make a willing, free choice) The difference between coming to God in Calvinism vs Arminianism is that in Calvinism, the reason we make that choice is because of grace. But in Arminianism, the reason we make that choice is because somehow we were better than those that didn't make the right choice.
@davidturner699 жыл бұрын
skalapunk Therefore, it becomes a work of our own "righteousness", and not a gift of God, that no man should boast, amiright? We have NO choice in it. None. +Carl Peterson When you say "Some Calvinists believe in free will and others do not", you first have to define "Free will" before you can make such an assertion. If you mean by "free will" that man is never enslaved to his unregenerate nature and thus his spiritual choices do not necessarily reflect that nature, 100% of Calvinists disagree with free will. However if you simply mean "the ability to make choices in accordance with your nature" then 100% of Calvinists believe in free will. It's that pesky question of "do people make decisions in correspondence with their fallen nature, or not?" that we must bring the discussion to, in order to make any progress.

Listening to this song is like asking Rob Bell to speak at a missions conference. "Who is Rob Bell?" Yeah, you're an Arminian.

It’s almost as if Satan himself was singing. “Willingly bow down to me, and I will give all these things to you...”

Wow - this is what it looks like when people hate the God of the Bible and re-cast him in their own image. None of these people are born-again.

C'mon man. Regeneration is based on the Holy Spirit and not our understanding of the Doctrines of Grace.

The fruit of regeneration according to Paul is that the gospel becomes the aroma of life while for the unregenerate it remains the stench of death. According to Jesus, the Pharisees proved that they were not of His sheep because, His sheep know Him and know His voice and follow Him and the voice of strangers they will not follow. One cannot insist that salvation is the result of man's will and understand what the gospel is, let alone have faith in the imputed righteousness of Christ. Thus the fruit of their defiant rejection of the gospel manifest that they are not yet born-again. As they currently view the gospel as a stench of death and teach in place of the gospel another gospel which is really not another but they seek to pervert the gospel by insisting that men can be justified by an act of the will.

We must take care when we say that someone who touts their 'free will' is automatically unregenerate. Are they incorrect? Absolutely! But it's not their soteriology is not what saves them. It is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. We are not saved merely by what we know or have faith in, ultimately. It is only the blood of Christ that saves a person. If we had all the faith and knowledge in the world, but Christ had not died, then we would be hopelessly lost. So it is only in the blood of Christ that we have redemption--the fruit or sign of our salvation being faith. There is no qualification for faith being saving other than believing that Christ, lived, died, and rose again in our place giving us life. Anything we add onto that believe becomes Gnosticism--that now we must have special knowledge in order to be saved. Is knowledge of right doctrine good? Yes! But is it absolutely necessary for salvation? No! At what point do we draw the line, if not what the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15? Is your theology absolutely perfect? I know mine is not, and then the question arises, am I truly covered by the blood of Christ, or must I reach theological perfection in order to actually be saved--that that is the Gospel I must believe, and that any defect in my belief is indicative that I am not truly regenerate. I recall to mind John Calvin's quote, "We need not demand absolute perfection of the Gospel in others, though we should strive for it ourselves." Certainly, we should show Free-willers the truth and joys to be found in the right understanding of Scripture, but we cannot say that the belief in a synergistic soteriology is soul-damning. It is true that many Arminians (as well as fellow Calvinists for that matter) are going to Hell. It is true that the Arminian theological system leads more to Hell than to Heaven. But it is also true that people can betray their theological systems. Most Arminians don't actually hold to orthodox Arminianism. Most simply hold to Calvinism, but replace the monergistic regeneration with the more palatable synergistic one. I commend you for your zeal, Justin, but I think you ought to be in prayer and solemnity before you say that someone is rejecting the Gospel because they hold to their free-will. This isn't just a game or a concept that we entertain ideologically. This is the reality of Hell we are talking about, and the theological implications of saying that our Arminian brothers and sisters are going to Hell are so severe that not even the Apostle Peter ought to enter heaven as He did not understand the Gospel to be open to the Gentiles (see Galatians 1 & 2). Keep reading, praying, and singing, Brother. Speak with your pastor on this as well. Grace and peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

You sir have created a false dichotomy in which men can be saved by faith in a gospel they do not even know. Faith is as it would appear that we agree a gift from God. Faith is not what saves us, grace is. Faith merely testifies to the grace received. If a man does not know the gospel, it is impossible for that man to have faith in the gospel. No one is saved by their doctrine however doctrine is the biblical means by which we are to evaluate ones claim to be regenerate as we cannot know the heart and are only able to judge by externals. John tells us that the one who walks in darkness while claiming to have fellowship with the God of light is a liar and the truth is not in Him. He was not teaching that men are saved by their doctrine but rather that a man's doctrine can testify whether or not such a man is saved. You are touting very common but unbiblical view which affirms the salvation of Arminians despite the fact they they clearly believe in and teach works salvation. 2 Church counsels condemned semi-pelagianism as Heresy, the counsel of Orange and the synod of Dort. I would recommend that you spend some time with the cannons of Dort. As it appears now you are strong in presenting the popular opinions of men, but I would recommend you reconcile your position with the Word of God. You desire to call Arminians "brother and sisters in Christ" while I am convinced they need to be evangelized for their lay people believe a false gospel and their teachers are under the anathema of God.

Sir, I have read both of those councils and their verdicts several times. I'm not saying that these systems in themselves are not heretical, but most Arminians betray their own systems without knowing it. Very few Arminians believe that they saved themselves. They may believe that they chose to have faith, but they don't believe that they saved themselves. Like I said, they betray their system of belief. Faith is more-so the internal sign to a person of their salvation. The outward sign that tells others is their works and their love for one another. Neither one of us are in this video or the people whose salvation is in question. Arminians for the most part believe that Christ crucified, died, and risen for their sins is what saved them, and until an individual says otherwise either verbally or by the lack of good fruit, I am inclined to treat that person as regenerate, though not entirely correct on soteriology. I am a 'Calvinist.' I battled through the same thoughts of this. I know it seems as though I'm trying to be all ecumenical here--trying not to step on toes at the expense of God's Word. I know that what you think I'm doing here, and I get that--I've been through that as well. But please, for the love of the body of Christ--the very Bride that He died for, read, study and pray extensively on this. Please speak with your pastor on this. You told me to look up councils, so I assume you read church history. Please, read the countless works of faithful, reformed churchmen that God has gifted to the body, and see what they have to say about Arminians: yes, they're wrong, but no, they are not hoping in a false gospel. (Some people such as: C.H. Spurgeon, A.W. Pink, Abraham Kuyper, Theodore Beza, etc.). I know you may be convinced, but ask yourself this: are you more correct than all these churchmen that have studied much more than you? I know that is certainly one of the arguments that had me turn when I was struggling to believe that Arminians could go to heaven.

When someone buys someone a house as my analogy stated you are not involved in that transaction. That is between God and Jesus. My analogy is sound once the transaction took place mankind was offered houses if they choose to accept the free gift. Jesus died for all mankind to argue against this is to argue with the Bible. The debt for each person is not lifted unless the decide to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. If you have not done this your gift is on the table accept Jesus and take it.

You need the doctrine of free will so you can make the people works dependant so that they are then impressed by your show of "godliness". That annoying doctrine of the sovereignty of God keeps getting in the way of people being impressed with me because they keep praising Jesus for MY GODLINESS!
