Just found your channel, and this is the coal stove i grew up with. Thank you for showing this. This even brought a tear to my eye of all the ash shaken and the sweet heat when it gets red hot and run you out of the room. I have a few burns and battle scars from learning to load the fire and shake ash in the skuttle.

I am lucky to live in coal country. Anthracite (hard) coal makes a tremendous amount of heat and it lasts for up to 12 hours. I also burn wood scraps and hardwood when I get ambitious. Good luck with that stove. It is a terrific design (note the firebrick shapes). Efficiency!

Your stove is a warm morning model 414 as near as I can tell. While wood can be used in it, it was designed for coal. Either anthracite or bituminous will work. With proper draft setting you can easily get a 24 hour burn if filled with coal. I had a warm morning model 400a heating my home in Alaska and over the years I burnt about 250 tons of coal in it and it was still going strong when I sold the house ten years ago.

Oh wow! It seems to work decent with wood. I've never seen coal for sale around me.

It's model 528, but I've been curious of it being coal burning as well. I have one I'm about to install. Coal makes sense after doing some research

O. M. G. That is a functional coal stove ! That Is a valuable find.... Take time to research burning coal. Lots of anthracite coal near Pennsylvania - cheap and long lasting burn time...

In my part of VA coal isn't readily available, I honestly had no clue it was a coal stove.

In the lower door needs to be an ash drawer just make 1 out of sheet metal or the tin bottom of the stove will burn thru. other wise good job!

You need to put blocking between your rafters! Otherwise, the heat goes right out through the spaces. When you put the blocking in place, you 16:55 can cut circular holes with screen over them for ventilation, with each hole (about 3 inches wide) centered between the rafters.

Where I live, coal is hard to come by

You need a dampner in that stove pipe. Also that stove is a coal stove not a wood burner. You have two air inlets a primary & secondary. The upper one is for the coal gases to burn off, the bottom controls air into the coal grate.

Great video! I just picked up the very same model stove based on how well yours turned out. I found it cheap on FB Marketplace for $100 and even though various commenters stated this to be a coal and not a wood stove, I also plan to use mine in my workshop, burning mostly wood. I love the look you achieved after polishing it. How has this performed for you in the year you have had it? Has it held up for you and have you had to re-apply the polish at some point?

I do need to put some more polish on it, but it is still black and does still look good!

Always go through the block wall instead of going through the roof... Walls do not leak ! ! ! Roofs will always leak eventually ... for your next time advice ...

What was your first dirt bike what age ?
@LilBJessup3 жыл бұрын
My first bike was a Chinese 70 called a jingjing. It was based on a xr70, which is why I am drawn to the ol' xr200, so similar. I started riding when I was 10, but didn't start racing until recently.

This burns COAL and I had this years ago. Yes, you can burn wood but coal burns slower and gives a even heat.

Only problem is that there isn’t coal available around me.
