I have the Orba 1 and find it sad, that updates stopped at the instant the Orba 2 was released, despite both being continued to be sold at the same time. The Orba 1 really lacks some basic features like quantization. Despite all that, it's still a nice instrument, though I prefer the Volca workflow.

Yeah as soon as I found that out I stopped covering the Orba stuff. Not a fan of that kind of behavior.

I've had one for over a month now and like anything it has pros and cons. To me, if you think of it as an instrument, it's not so bad. Leave it out on a coffee table and it's inviting for anyone with any music skill level to pick it up and start playing something. It's fun. But then you try to go past fun and into more real music creation and you hit lots of roadblocks....you have to have the app around, have to send samples through a USB cable, you only get 5 notes to play...etc. I think it has its place, but I was kinda hoping it would be more than it is. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Finally you get the Orba2 :) It will be interesting if you do a comparison with your OP-133 since both are ultra portable, self-contained music gadget. I think one thing that ORBA2 missing is the ability to have multiple loops/patterns then to chain them to make a full song (I don't know for sure since I don't have it). I'm considering to get PO-133 but it will be interesting to see your thoughts & comparison with the POs. Thanks
@FreeBeat2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they're completely different pieces of gear. If I was looking to make a song with one of them as a standalone device, it'd be the PO-33/PO-133 every time.

How can you NOT lean on that 2005 what-what airhorn? Very cool little thing. The haptic feedback, velocity, accelerometer and give-it-a smack are such great ideas for intuitive performance. And on Black Friday TM even! Actually a great gift idea- anyone from 9 months to 99 years and 9 months are likely to enjoy this thing. Madison Avenue here I come!

Hey FB. I didn’t realise you’d tried one of these out. I must have missed this video. I guess you didn’t keep it otherwise you’d have made more videos (?) I just got one, hence my now finding your video. It’s ace. I’m planning to create something this week when I’ve got to grips with it, probably with geoshred pro and the tenor sax combo. Pondering… Cheers. Lee

Hmm, great timing! I just heard of this thing from Black Friday sales and immediately noticed how cheap it is (especially the first Orba) yet was kinda put off by the control methods. Looks like it could make an interesting alternative to drum pads at least or possibly even a small soundboard, but don't know how much I'd use it for anything else vs traditional keys and pad controllers.
@jn2002dk2 жыл бұрын
The first Orba does not have quantizing, making recording a pain, despite them promising to implement this. You're also stuck with the samples included in the app. I would not recommend it
@FreeBeat2 жыл бұрын
I like it as a controller, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a standalone piece of gear.

Hi nice video. After seeing an ad on FB I started looking into these portable beat makers/midi controllers. I'm a beginner and looking for something that includes a speaker. Is there anything besides Orba 2 that I should look at? I don't mind if it's a little bigger size than the Orba as long as it has the option to function (ie. make sound) on its own.
@vertigev2 жыл бұрын
Seems pretty cool actually but is there a way to change presets without the app? If not that's a deal breaker for me..

I don't believe so, but I'd more recommend using it as a controller than a standalone device.

In case you haven't already, update the firmware. They've put out several updates to address bugs and new features. And yeah, the USB requirement for sending over samples is kind of annoying, but fortunately it's a one time thing per sample or sample pack. Also with a drum kit, hold down on the 8 pad and shake it. The gestures you get for synth parts are rotating it as you play, and for kit you get that I think plus the slap or tap, and if you hold 8 and shake it you get a shaker.

Cute little machine but the constant "plug it in and update firmware" and "connect USB" detracts from the fun factor. (No windows or macs here, so bleh on needing that.)

I hate the design. Aesthetics is more important to me than it should be. But it is what it is. I know I'm always asking for different content. But how about a tutorial on the Cre8audio East Beast and West Pest? I just got the East Beast in the mail yesterday and literally just open it this morning. There are plenty of reviews of the East Beast. But there aren't any tutorial vids on how to use it...and the online instructions could be a lot better.

I'm not sure I have the knowledge to make such a video haha. I definitely need to do some learning though, so who knows!
@baltimoreluke2 жыл бұрын
@@FreeBeat The East Beast and West Pest are $250 new. I got mine open box for $150. So it's mostly a budget synth. I don't know if I'd call the East Beast a TB-303 clone exactly, but programing the sequencer is almost as confusing if you don't know what you're doing. Syncing both Volcas and Pocket Operators is easy though.

@@jaguarvssnake yup they promised quantization and more preset packs and export never happened and I still don’t think ya can export on Orba 2 just save in the underdeveloped app . Orba one got left in the dust but at least it’s low fi still Orba synth cool but for desktop makes no sense and Orba cam is whatever cool but yeah idk if they spent the same money 💰 on advertisement and put it into the app that would be great, also the ergonomics feel weird to me its basically a cool motion Bluetooth midi controller for koala 🐨 or other app/daws
