Bob's interpretation of 7:5-7 at 4:05 is wrong. It was those who cupped the water in their hands and lapped it from their hands who were the 300. If you look back at the Hebrew, it's clearly "the number of the ones lapping in hand to mouth 300, and all the rest of the people, they bowed on knees to drink the waters" : מִ סְ +ַר הַ מֲלַקְ קִ י ְ יָדָ אֶל+ִ יהֶ 4מֵ אתאִ י If God wanted the "weakest" soldiers to fight, then why would he have sent away the ones who were fearful in the previous verses? God wants us all to be watchful. He wants us all to be wary of Satan - to never allow us to fall prey to his tricks, so that we can never claim to have been "surprised" by a sin or shortcoming in our lives. In fact, the entire narrative of Chapters 5-7 is how God rewards the faithful. It doesn't mean we don't have doubts. Rather, when we have doubts, instead of turning away from God, we should turn back to God and continue to pray so that we may persevere despite our doubts. Even though Gideon doubts time and time again, he continues to follow God's instruction. It is because of Gideon's ultimate obedience that God rewards him.
