Outstanding intro on this subject Keith! Like you said many factors involve including if the gunsmith is using a solid reamer holder vs floating. Stay away from PTG be all means.. im stating that from expirence

Agree, but, it's unfortunate, the original owner is/was VERY skilled producing quality years ago,....but,....just not a business/marketing man, then - introduce new owner/marketer - a TRUE schmuck just out for the buck ONLY - End of story/End of PTG.......hear-say what I heard years ago anyway.....moral of the story/word to the wise - steer clear & boycott the schmucks, just look at what they are doing to America by self-proclaiming THEY are OUR government....& they have done it to the rest of the world....they won WW2, & I am sure glad the world/majority actually have them "nailed" for whom they are.....little history there.....lol

It's worth mentioning that bore diameter (land/groove) can change visual appearance of freebore........especially of cartridges with very small freebore diameters.......like various 223 reamers.

How appropriate that you talk this. I have a .260 Remington I want to lengthen the freebore to allow for seating the bullets out further and regain that lost cartridge capacity.

Lots of good points Keith. Many people talk about freebore length without mentioning freebore diameter which can change the “to the lands” distance by a lot.

I would add that any good gunsmith should cut a test chamber before using that reamer on customers barrel.

I, for one, would love to see you get into the weeds with the math behind the scenes. On all your videos

Your land dimension also factors in.

I agree with others. Cut a test chamber in softer material to lessen the wear on the reamer and still give an exact sample of its cut. Why waist or ruin a barrel for competition .

People just need to get some good CAD software and design it all up. It's not that hard to do.
