Two months ago I got my first introduction to parametric CAD at school using Fusion. I also got a student license for Fusion and was going to start learning by my own. But as a child of open source I remembered something called FreeCAD, so I had a look. Turned out that FreeCAD was in version 1.0 RC4, so I instantly installed it and threw away Fusion. Now I'm learning parametric CAD using FreeCAD :) I'm very lucky that the 1.0 version is released and that @Deltahedra makes these learning efficient videos for the brand new v1.0! I expect FreeCAD's power will grow a lot in a couple of years after this v1.0 release, we are just getting started!

@@deltahedra3D Crashed once on me when I was following along. But after killing the process and restarting, it asked me if I wanted to restore my last (unsaved) project, and I believe I only lost a couple of operations. So yeah, even when it crashes, it still manages to recover gracefully.

There are many hotkeys that can be used instead of the UI elements. But he's not trying to teach the hotkeys, he's trying to teach a workflow. These are beginner tutorials, you want to keep things as simple and clear as possible. What you don't want is to overwhelm beginners with a ton of irrelevant information they'll discover on their own anyway. The application shows you the hotkeys when you hover over the button, you'll pick up on that soon enough if you keep using it. Knowing what the button looks like so you can quickly locate it is far more valuable to a beginner than 20 hotkeys they'll forget by the time they sit down with their own FreeCAD installation to try and create something.

Appreciate the use of light theme and larger icons to make it easier for us to follow. Not sure how much of a difference the light theme makes; personally I prefer the dark theme and find the icons perfectly distinguishable at an enlarged size (I'm on a 4k screen, so the default size is a bit on the tiny side). Not that far into the video, so no idea if you also slow down a bit when moving through the interface, and point out better what you're doing as you're doing it. The previous video was a bit confusing at times when you went a bit fast, especially when going to the tiny icons. But hey, the previous tutorial was already quite good, meanwhile your presentation style is improving, and that's appreciated. :)

Hi, thanks a lot for your video ! One thing I’d like to learn from you though : how to take proper measures of a complex object that you want to replicate. For complex shapes, notably curves, do you eyeball it and do multiple test prints until it fits, do you try to calculate it ? A video with tips and tricks about this would be much appreciated, thanks !

Thank you very much for putting so much effort into producing these very detailed and well-conceived tutorials for us new to freeCAD. It is very much appreciated! Unfortunately my version of FreeCAD (1.0.0 Revision 39109 (git)) reliably crashes when performing the boolean cut operation (shown at 33:13 in the video). I am running 64 Bit Arch Linux on an AMD Ryzen 7 5800U with integrated AMD Graphics, 16 GB RAM. Any idea why this keeps happening? Thank you very much!

17:03: When I try copying the sketch, if I unselect the DatumPlane in the popup, it deselects everything. If I try to re-add Profile 1, it re-adds everything. Even if I leave everything selected and click OK, nothing is copied into the paste buffer, so I can't paste it into my workbench. Not sure what's happening here, but can't follow the tutorial at this point, instead having to recreate the path for the second position. If anyone has any clue what's going on and how to fix, that'd be much appreciated.

Could you create a video that shows how to model standard dimension external and internal threads? For example, when I tried to model external M19x1 (which is not available as predefined dimension in any thread tools) I couldn't simply define thread profile and apply helix because my "cut tool" had 1 mm dimension and using it to cut thread with 1 mm pitch caused FreeCAD to complain about self-intersecting geometry. I had to resort to cutting the major dimension with separate operation and using helix cut for the inner dimension only. I hope there's a better way to do threads but I couldn't figure it out.
