Out of all the FreeCAD workbenches we use the Sketcher the most. The quicker our CAD sketching can be the sooner we can get our models completed. With this FreeCAD tutorial I will demonstrate how to create unconstricted and constricted lines, arcs (bith tangent and non tangent) using a single tool and without the need to constantly switch between tools allowing you to get you sketch geometry down quicker.

Thats pretty cool, 2 weeks into freecad now and feel quite comfortable with it thanks to you Mango, cheers, dont like the other cloud based options because of its internet reliability

Great to hear your progress. Yes cloud based options are not for me., I rather own than rent especially when opening my work in a years time is the hands of a third party still supporting the features I use.

@@MangoJellySolutions The free versions of online tools have a precondition that the free users have to release their models as royalty-free models. But many users give an obscure name to their models to make them undiscoverable. At the end, no one is happy.

Great time saver! Thanks, I was not aware of that! And btw, without even mentioning it, you revealed another cool trick of which I was not aware: assigning a diameter to multiple circles at the same time, resulting in equality constraints!

@4:43 I had never noticed the possibility of aligning the end of a line with respect to another point of the sketch. 😎 Thanks for the tip and for your informative videos ! ** @ 4:43 je n'avais jamais remarqué la possibilité d'aligner la fin d'une ligne par rapport à un autre point de l'esquisse. 😎 Merci pour l'astuce et pour vos vidéos instructives !

Great help, this has sped me thru designs faster. I used to draw basic objects and cut them or booleaned them. I just designed a small engine piston ring compressor for a friend who has a shop. Using this vid I just drew it straight-away. It is basically a shower curtain ring - ha. But doing it this way and adding constraints seems so much more sophisticated.

Wow! I had never realized that a polyline reduces the labor by such an extent. Having used Sketchup before taking up FreeCAD, I used to miss the inference engine. But polyline serves the same purpose (trick at 5:00). Of course, while SketchUp's inference engine can apply constraints on the fly, it lacks most of the constraints offered by FreeCAD. BTW a "mil" is an officially used unit name, equal to 0.001 inch. So the unit 'mm' should be pronounced as "em em", and not as "mil".
@redheadsg1
@redheadsg1 Жыл бұрын
Almost perfect but it is missing ability to add dimensions while drawing, just like in F360. A cherry on top would be removing constraint requirement before padding in Part Design and then you are almost good as F360.

But how can be precise constrains from beggining not in the end? Like in other cad softwares, for eg keeping spacebar pressed can constrain direction, when you reach the perpendicular to the desired point it shows you somehow, etc

What key do you press to have all the line automatically connect to each other, without having to individually constraints the points on each of the lines together, thanks. I'm new to freecad.
@MangoJellySolutions
@MangoJellySolutions Жыл бұрын
You need to tick the auto constraints when you come into the sketcher. It will be on the left hand side. That means when you place your mouse over a constraint it will connect to that constraint
