Thanks for this great intro video. It's a big help for learning FreeCAD. For Windows users, entering the following alt codes will allow you to enter the symbols used in the video (ie: hold the alt key while entering the number code that follows) ° = alt 248 ø = alt 0248 ± = alt 241

Thank you so much. I'm in the process of adding FreeCAD to my company's (Tranquility CAD & Technical Services) CAD capabilities after years of being on a strictly Solid Edge basis. After a week of learning, I'm starting to develop the "feel" for the differences between the two when it comes to part design & drawing production, thanks to yours and other's YT demos. My company provides part design, assembly/fabrication drawings, re-engineering and documentation services as a service to machine/sheet metal shops, OEM's, and others who need such services where they lack in-house support or need additional, short-term help with such. Your videos are much appreciate in helping the general engineering community. Thank you.

Thanks for your nice tutorials, I have just one tip: maybe you should check your microphone and/or recording input value as there is quite a bit of distortion of the audio, and I think that's a pity considering the great value of your video's.

Hi Edward; I probably don't understand your full design intent, but adding them in as an assembly and then making a drawing of the assembly is usually a good way to go for adding fasteners. 0.19 can do a bill of materials as well for your screws. There are some assembly videos on my channel.

All fine, this was interesting. But to make real technical drawings basic functions may not be always sufficient. At least if the ASME or ISO standards are goung to be adhered to. What about the different line thickness for contour, internals, sections, etc. What about the axis, dash lines for invisible edges, and dash-dot for these above? And partial, incline sections, or even ones cut at different angle at centre. All these would be absolutely great.

Hello Joko, Excellent tutorial! I had a question: So I am a SolidWorks CAD designer and I want to import the Solidworks(.sldprt) format into Freecad and then draft it so CNC operator can understand the design. I converted sldprt into step and tried to draft it but it's not getting a good result. What do you suggest?
@JokoEngineeringhelp
@JokoEngineeringhelp 5 жыл бұрын
I would guess that the problem is happening because the part is not native to FreeCAD and won't have all the functionality. Is the part looking hollow? I would suggest opening the STEP in a part environment of FreeCAD, going to the part workbench, and in the top ribbon selecting Part > Convert to Solid. You'll still have a dumb solid, but it should be converted into a format that works with the drawing environment. Let me know if that works.

@@JokoEngineeringhelp Thanks Joko, I tried but we needed a flexible drawing which could be edit back in freecad, so I drew the model in freecad. Another question, I had was in techdraw, the line thickness is quite high and for complex designs it just doesnt look professional. which feature can be used to reduce the line thickness? Thanks
@JokoEngineeringhelp
@JokoEngineeringhelp 4 жыл бұрын
@@tusharwable8190 Hi Tushar; I understand, dumb solids can be a drag. To change line weight in TechDraw, highlight the view you'd like to edit, go to the view tab on the bottom left and the line weight can be adjusted there with the 'line width' option. Cool feature, I should add that to my channel.

If I change the units to inches you can't add dia in front of dimensions. Actually you can't add any text to it. I wish I can use Freecad, but every time I try it something doesn't work.

Another workaround is if you look in the Python console after editing some text; there you can insert escape sequences like \u00b0 inside strings.
