Prisoners of war are those enemy militants taken for military actions. Hostages are civilians kidnapped. Since everyone in "Israel" has to serve once they are 18, don't know how you are to distinguish one from the other. However, several high Hamas leaders had said over a long time that it was not their intention to take civilian captives but to focus on soldiers. Also, that day, the Nova festival was supposed to be over but extended that one day by "Israeli" authorities. Curious. No one would have been there if it had been left as was. The kibbutzem are well-armed, by the way, with their own armories and resided in by current and past IDF, so again..how to distinguish soldier from civilian?
