For those unaware, the Dahab blue hole is one of the most dangerous diving spots in the world, due to the plentiful number of inexperienced divers who, with plenty of rental shops and quickie training classes on SCUBA in the area, decide to go down into the hole and try to swim the arch. The arch has a current and is deceptively deep and long to pass through. The overall scale of the hole makes it look easy. Some run out of gas. Others get narc’d and miss the arch entirely. Way too many classes don’t explain deeper depths and the differences, saving those topics ‘for later.’ Telling people to just stay above 10m or 30m or whatever does not satisfactorily teach them why and what happens..
