The biggest misconception people have about freediving is that it is about your ability to hold your breath for long periods, but its so much more than that. The further you get the more it becomes a meditative-psychology teaching you to relax every muscle in your body. Only then can you reach the depths you want. Have fun!

so cool to see an Australian youtuber in my area try freediving. I used free dive a lot at shelly beach but just never had anyone to go with so id end up just doing it by myself (which is no good). I think by myself I got to around 12-13 meters deep (around the depth of the underwater motorcycle at shelly beach). I wish you luck on freediving and you definitely inspired me to try it again

That's a great start, Laurie! I love swimming and diving, but I am super bad at breathing.. 1 minute max and I hyperventilate lol. The last shots are beautiful, swimming with seals must be amazing. Can't wait for your next challenge /video! Take care

Swimming with the seals; awesome! I didn't realize the head-down equalizing can be an issue. I've gone down maybe 6-10m while snorkeling and really looking forward to doing a proper Freediving course with an instructor, hopefully this year, to learn to go deeper and stay longer for those fun dives. Stay safe and have fun!

I'm doing a class in Hawaii next month so this helps me know what to expect. Though I am a practiced swimmer so I know you can hold your breath on average for a minute on land so that doubles in the water typically, but static holds is always the worst.

Thinking that the air comes out through the ears is a big misconception 😂 If so, bubbles would be seen escaping from the ears. What you essentially do is increasing the pressure in your middle ear through the Eustachian tubes, to match it with the pressure outside. Great video, btw!

Your teacher failing to instruct you to perform the Valsalva maneuver in order to equalize your ears was irresponsible. That's how you cause barotrauma to your ears.
@Whosurdaddy7111 ай бұрын
That was just the test in the beginning. 😂
@mc-nm6ml9 ай бұрын
Uhhh no… there’s no way he made it down 8 meters without equalizing. Just cause it wasn’t expressly taught/shown in the video doesn’t mean they didn’t go over it.

We use Frenzel, not Valsalva, to equalize. It's one of the first things an instructor teaches.
