This web series has no propaganda, they showed the actual reason of partition and didn't show gandhi and nehru as villan as today's politicians do. I absolutely loved this show

One of the very few times when I completely disagree with Suchin. It's hell of a show. No over the top dramatizations. Factually correct. Complete and honest recreation. Very informative and very important webseries in the history of history and also, in the history of webseries. It's a very important lesson which not many people know. The power struggle, the ego battles, the boardroom meetings sans emotional drama are a treat to watch. Kudos to the makers. To the point and with no political agenda. Did full justice to the material in hand.

I totally disagree this was a great series. The roles and casting of Nehru, Gandhi and Patel were really interesting and actors did a great job. Only thing I agree was I wanted to see more of Jinnah's human side and other notes. We hardly see balanced political shows so I really appreciate this had no extreme propaganda. It was not a documentary either you are just not into the the subject or you weren't in a zone for a show like this most people I know really liked it.

This is a good review and fair critique on the performances. We've seen better Nehrus and Gandhis in other creative adaptations. Vallabhbhai and Mountbatten were the standout performances in this web series. It was fast paced! And breathtaking to finally have a nuanced retelling of historical events. I have a sense that the makers of the series self-censored super controversial content that's mentioned in the Freedom at Midnight book. Going to read the book before the next installment of this series!

On the actors I agree. After getting used to a Tom Alter as the Maulana, difficult to accept another actor. Maybe we need to adjust. Love such shows.

I'm really glad you mentioned Jinnah's depiction as being more one note and flimsy. I'm a Pakistani and love history but oftentimes, films and shows on partition only seem to show Congress leaders as sincere men fighting a cause, never giving both sides equal weightage. I'm not saying that Jinnah should be a star or glamorized in any way, just written better and shown as a full bodied individual and why he fought for Pakistan. No other review mentioned this so thank you for doing so. On a side note, many contemporary historians (Metcalf & Metcalf; Jalal & Bose) emphasize that Jinnah was using the idea of Pakistan, a separate nation state, as a bargaining chip in order to get Nehru to give in for his demand of provincial autonomy over a federal based rule. In the end, it was too late and Pakistan kinda had to happen. No one seems to talk about this ever. It kinda makes sense why Pakistan wouldn't but I don't see why Indian content doesn't acknowledge this either and only makes Jinnah out to be an evil guy who broke up the subcontinent.

Bro yu got to be more simpler while reviewing films/web. Your affluence n proficiency of the language only blocks the essence of the Subject rather than leting it thru in the listener's minds. Words should be the medium to explain the idea, not to impress.

The Partition of India was only about "Ghazwa-E-Hind". The Partition was only about the creation of an Islamic State out of an Ancient Civilization of Bharat. "Ghazwa-E-Hind" is the unfinished continuous ongoing project which has gained momentum over the last few decades. In the thousands of years of The World History, INDIA IS THE ONLY COUNTRY which was divided due to religion. There was no hundred percent population transfer either after Partition of India. Those who voted for the creation of Pakistan never went to Pakistan and stayed back in India.

Use common sense. Partition only happened for bengal and punjab, Muslims in kerala had nothing to do with Pakistan

Interesting review! While "Freedom at Midnight" aims to cover a pivotal moment in history, it's crucial that the portrayal of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the creation of Pakistan is done with the respect and depth it truly deserves. Jinnah was not just a political leader but a visionary who fought for the rights and independence of Muslims in the subcontinent. It's great to see the series acknowledging his role, but I hope future narratives can explore his character and the birth of Pakistan with more nuance, without reducing it to a mere political rivalry. I look forward to more reviews and discussions on this topic. Subscribed! Keep up the great work, @SuchinMehrotra and @THRIndia! 🇵🇰

The problem is Jinnah had the vision for one community not the entire nation. He could have the torch bearer in promoting communal harmony and brotherhood amongst the race of people with the same ethnicity, same food and same language. Repercussions were expected in lieu of his actions dividing millions in the communal lines. Power politics delayed the potential of a land that is supposed to be Superpower in future. Alas, Superpower labels won't be associated with our dear neighbours at any point in the future.

I have read the book, Collins and Lapierre make the history accessible and engaging, ensuring that readers are not only informed but also emotionally invested in the narrative. In this show the emotional connect is missing. All the characters in these 7 episodes where just saying there lines without any feelings , it was like action cut ho gaya..! Very much disappointed 🤦🤦
