People should allow the rule of law to take its course. If Baba Ijesha is found guilty, he should face the music regardless of his social status. No one is above the law. We need to change our perception, narrative and some outdated adage that supports such barbaric behaviour. A good example is a popular saying in Yoruba: "ti egun ba gun omo awo le se, ese ogberi la ti ma yo". (forgive my poor Yoruba writing). Simple literary translation: if someone within the circle commits an atrocity, turn a blind eye and put the blame on someone who's outside the circle - an innocent person. Hence, injustice is perpetrated at the alter of fairness. So, Baba Ijesha is a celebrity, as a result, he shouldn't face the wrath of the law. He just slept with a minor. It's okay. Anyone in civilised world will tell you such behaviour carries a minimum sentence of 7 years. It's called rape. Not only is it barbaric, but a complete negation of human civilisation. It stinks! We should strive to stamp out all unethical behaviour and injustice from our society, regardless of the status of the culprit(s). In Western world, it won't matter if you're a President; a Minister of a High Court Judge or celebrity, if you commit rape, you're going to jail. Their society frowns upon such primitive and barbaric behaviour. Yoruba, and indeed Nigeria should wake up. The rule of law is no respecter of anybody. In Australia, a 70-year-old retired judge Einfeld was sentenced to the maximum three years in prison for knowingly making a false statement under oath and for attempting to pervert the course of justice, with a non-parole period of two years.
