In my experience there's great compatibility between the 12 steps and the teachings of the Buddha. The notion of a "higher power" can be translated to *non-self*, i.e. free from the bondage of self. Step 1-3 to me read as: Right View and Right Intention. For those interested in how the 12 step philosophy compares to Buddhism, see the works of Judith Ragir.

so if I can just observe the liking and disliking and let it be without aversion/attachment it can go back to neutral which is a much more peaceful way to be. peaceful while experiencing unpleasantness.
@englishmonk Жыл бұрын
Neutral is also vedanā so one has to see the impermanence in the feeling knowing it's unsatisfactoriness and uncontrollable nature, then one can let go

Someone who recently learnt that I am following the Buddhist teachings sent me this qoute which I don't understand. "Not knowing the truth and concluding kills everything " I would appreciate if you could explain this for me. Thankyou, may you be happy.

Very interesting discussion. However, the Buddha definitely, in my view, never ascertained the existence of a citta outside the five aggregates. In fact, he said the opposite: that someone would point to, make known, smth outside these 5 aggregates, that is impossible. The sense of continuity you are referring to as citta is within the 5 aggregates.

Thanks for your comments. I would like to understand more about this dilemma . It would be nice a video on this subject yo make some clarity. It's quite an important subject.. For my own practice I decided to not think about citta but to let go of everything even a notion of a knower. Be happy

I believe many may benefit from this teaching when it comes to addiction recovery but expect very few to actually make the effort, especially as it's not part of a 'program', including the two larger Buddhist recovery fellowships. It would seem only those who are serious about the dhamma will entertain this possibility, which is probably exceedingly few.

Thank you very much, Bhante, very good explanation. One question: I have difficulties believing in other lives. Is liberation possible without believing in other lives? Can the 12 links be applied to each present moment, like a spinning wheel? I believe that it is not necessary to resort to other lives from the past. Thank you very much for your videos, they are very good, greetings from Madrid.
