Freedom Planet 2 Preview - Carol Gameplay

Carol's back, and she's got some new tricks up her feline sleeves! Her Jump Disc lets her slice up enemies from a distance, and she can home in on its location for extra damage. She can also throw the disc upwards to reach new heights. Combined with her wall jumping, she has the most vertical mobility of any character in the game. She's also been training in Bike Fu and has a number of new, hard-hitting attacks while riding her motorcycle. She can even throw it just like her disc!

+Demetrius Williams Nah, her powers are Science/Alchemy-based - she'll have been going to school in Shang Mu, skipping grades/years due to her phantasmally bright intelligence. Shame that it'd probably kill any chance for her to make new friends... but then again, she's got two of the best friends she could ever ask for (in the form of Lilac and Carol), so why would she need any more?

Carol. Carol don't open your mouth underwater! T_T Loving this too! The sprites look really well done, and the animations are smooth. I do still miss the personality of the old sprites - I feel like if these had a little more facial animation to go with certain actions they'd be there, though. The facial expressions of the FP1 sprites really expressed a lot of cute charm. These a bit more...badass, I suppose? Carol looks like a proper ass-kicker now, but don't get me wrong, she is still a cutie. :D Game looks like it's shaping up really nicely! Looking forward to the demo, please keep working hard!

Even though I generally like to play as Lilac more (given her playstyle), Carol here not looks BETTER than Lilac in terms of her 16-Bit Design, but she also looks like has much more moves than in her FP1 incarnation, so definitely looking forward to playing as her in this one! :D

Nah, Lilac is a mix of Sonic, Shantae and Sparkster/Rocket Knight - only without the dancing of the second. Milla is Cream + X + Bomberman - and I have yet to see how FP2 upgrades HER kit, so... we'll wait and see. But the REAL X shout-out would've been Torque... given what we'd played of him in the DLC beta (before it got cancelled).

I love the new sprites. Ever since I saw TysonTan's designs I was hopeful we'd see more of them (I think I even sent a message on Deviantart saying as much). The bike attacks look much better now, and it looks like that new ability will make her much speedier and more fun to play.

I hope carol will feel more....useful this time around. I felt like allot of her abilities had more precise applications than lilacs for small spaces, the problem was that there was never anything that really needed that kind of approach, so she sorta felt meh in comparison.

Well, she now has the Jump disk, giving her a powerful long-range attack, and a sort've grapple/double-jump/screw attack hybrid that's just about as awesome as it sounds... Lilac was my best pick for the first game, though now Carol is easily my favorite... Also, she can store her motorcycle now, so she has more precision and combat prowess in one moment, and more speed and height another...

Carol is looking fantastic! I love how you've used the shuriken sort of object and the ability to teleport/dash to it with an attack to play into her ninja-ey side from being with the Red Scarves a bit more. Also, her Motorcycle is looking polished and ready to burn rubber, and skid some faces! Also, in all of these three videos so far, it's been very fun just pausing and admiring your guys' spritework. Its beautiful!

Carol's gameplay looks super fun and the tweaks that were thrown in (like the disc) is a neat little feature that I'm sure will become a very useful tool for tricksters and speedrunners. And speaking of, for a second or two we can see a new running animation for her. Has all her chasing after Lilac finally started to pay off? The animations are also smooth and flow well, but I can't help but feel like she just looks a little strange in her neutral 'standing' animation. We only see it for a few brief moments, but it stands out to me. If her hands were held just a little lower, that might give the sprite some needed 'girth' but the juxtaposition of the giant hands at near 'shoulder' height and then her extremely slender body just looks 'off' to me. It's the only moment I felt it was ever noticeable though. The rest of her sprites and animations look very well done.

I would say I like the Jump Disk replacing the Chun-Li kick thing. Also means you don't have to throw red Jump Pads in specific locations. Appearance wise I wouldn't mind if Carol's head was just a little smaller. Nothing drastic but it does look a little too big even in the Freedom Planet universe. Could also just be the ears though.
