Freedom Planet 2 Preview - Lilac Gameplay

No fluff! Let's get straight into our first gameplay footage of Freedom Planet 2!
Lilac has received the least changes from the first Freedom Planet, but she still has some new tricks up her sleeve! Her Boost Breaker lets her jump out of her boosts while leaving behind a damaging explosion. She also benefits greatly from the new Guarding mechanic - which allows you to block/parry enemy attacks with proper timing - as well as Reviving, which lets you spend an extra life on the spot to get back up. (Careful though - you'll still go down in one hit!) Finally, Lilac can gain access to a set of Wing Gliders later in the game that enhance her Dragon Boost.

My only complaint is about the revival mechanic. Does it automatically activate upon death or can we choose to activate it? Cause it seems like a pretty easy way to accidentally waste 2 lives.

Yea, maybe it's because I don't live in english speaking country, but I also didn't have any problems with voice acting in the first one. I mean it wasn't perfect, but I felt that the heroines sounded natural enough, and to me, Alexander Barriga deserves an award for his role as Brevon. The "I'd like to see you try" line still sends chills down my spine.

I would change "just the right amount" to "a bit too much". I mean noone's gonna tell me that the parts with decapitation and torture weren't a bit overkill. But hell, he's still one of my favourite villains of all time. I hope Merga lives up to the hype.

The first game made me think MapleStory, even though the backdrops and soundtrack made me think LaTale. This, though? Full-on LaTale feeling. And yeah, I'm prepping my arsenal of money launchers to give them all the monies for when this comes out (it's my new rule: anything belonging to Gunvolt, Shantae, Shovel Knight, or Freedom Planet is a must-have).

We've indefinitely delayed anything concerning Spade / Torques DLC till after this release. Our solution may involve putting their stories into new games on the new engine. Trying to put in the DLC just broke too many things.

In my mind, this is how Sega SHOULD have made the entire Sonic Boom franchise. A sidescroller that combines speed with combat and exploration into a fantastic game.

Sega was not the creators of the sonic boom. Big Red Button made rise of lyric and Sanzaru Games made the 3Ds games

But they are the publishers, the ones who decide if a game comes up or not. In this case, Sonic Team are really the ones who had nothing to do with Sonic Boom, if you were trying to refer to them.

Christopher Shackelford Recently I discovered a trailer for a fangame called "Sonic Freedom" that's made in the art style of the Sonic OVA. It looks like there's a greater emphasis on exploration mixed with speed, and the presentation is just fantastic!

+Jared Groebner that was a mock up or proof of concept rather than an actual game. I doubt it would the coming out anytime soon as the developer does not know how to code and is learning to use unity which could take a long time

Lilac looks very pretty BTW UPDATE: The wings were scrapped due to time constraints. It has since been replaced by the Energizer power up in the final game - Sincerely, Luigifan243 from 5 years later

About every aspect of this sequel is a great improvement from the first. The camera even zooms out a little when you're fast. Side note: Her Dragon Boost looks like she went Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken since it has two auras (cyan on the inside, pink on the outside).

Sonic characters never grow up. As a model for Sonic, Galaxytrail don't want the game series look too much like Sonic so the characters grows up. I wonder what else they have thought

That and the art style is now veering away from Sonic a bit to get its own identity. In Freedom Planet 1, they went with characters that had similar silhouettes to Sonic characters in terms of proportions. It was after all born out of a Sonic Fan Game project. Now they are moving towards their own look, which is great as it gives Freedom Planet as a franchise more of an identity.

Here's something crazier, development for the first game started just about over 5 years ago and took a little over 2 years of development while this game only started development last year and seems like at the rate things are going will be finished almost 1 year faster than the FP1 was.

Wow, it's really improved! Being able to cancel the boost move, the spin jump not expending energy, BOSS HEALTH BARS. Now let's just hope that if there's a Nintendo console version that it actually gets everything this time.

Fun Fact: My favorite artist of all time actually is doing the concept art for this game :D I found the artist a long time ago, and found Freedom Planet when it came out and played it. Then he uploaded art of a sequel, and said he was working on it! I was like "PWAOEWJHSRWIKWSM NO WAY" Not a HUGE fan of FP really its just I found it kinda cool that he was making it ^^

Man seeing this gameplay gives a TOTALLY different vibe than the first game, and that's good! You can still see the speed aspect, but it makes it feel more original and unique at the same time. Especially picking up a few Vectorman vibes from this (yes I played that game, but only because it was a part of the Sonic Gems collection). You can also tell the girls matured quite a bit, I'm really excited for this game... SO SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
