I wouldn't equate Tim to Flea in all honesty. Stylistically, they aren't in the same genre. Time period they are. Flea plays in a pop group in all honesty (not disrespecting his talent). The song is in reference to a Lakota man, Leonard Peltier who the FBI illegally extradited from Canada to persecute him for the murder of two FBI agents killed on the Lakota Pine Ridge Reservation. It was basically a kangaroo court to get the judgement they wanted because they did not have any tangible proof of his guilt. He's been in federal prison since the '70s. It's a good one. In this song I prefer "They're setting up like a deck of cards, sending us to early graves. For all the diamonds they'll use a pair of clubs to beat the Spades". For those who are not aware, "spade" was a racial term for black people that became popular in the early 20th century. That's just lyrical genius to take the metaphor of "stacking a deck of cards" and then using 3 of the card suits in a single coherent sentence to make a critical statement about exploiting africans for the diamonds.

Tom Morello is a GENERATIONAL guitar player. He has a Jimi Hendrix like ability to make his guitar tell a story. Zack's ability to show the combined pain and anger in his voice simultaneously is what makes this song hit so hard, and continue to give you goose bump 30 years and hundreds of listens later. Tim is also a master on the base, and Brad keeps them all ticking on the drums.

One of the things Tom Morello is famous for is his 'special effects' He's very very good at making his guitar and his amp make all kind of bizarre noises, by doing things like scraping his pick against his strings (you can see him do it early in the video, Elizabeth pointed that moment out too) or turning the guitar on and off very rapidly (he has special switches installed in his guitar specifically to do that) and just playing with feedback by using very sensitve electronics and provoking interfence and distortion on purpose. He's said in interviews that he was inspired by djs, scratching and turntablism and such and that this is his way of trying to do something similar. Lots of hip hop influence in general in RATM in case that wasn't obvious for anyone :) Obviously he's also a genius at riffs and though doesn't do traditional solo's often he can definitely shred when he feels like it too. One of the most remarkable guitar players ever, not because of his technique (though he's no slouch at all, not in the slightest) but because of his creativity and his unique approach to the instrument. Haters have said in the past that Tom's nothing without his effects and his weird tricks, but that's just haters being haters. Tom also performs as a singer songwriter as 'the Nightwatchman' and he's VERY capable on a simple accoustic guitar too.

Zacks lyrics are really deep. What is interesting is he mixed the Mexican Grito as a phrase. Which gives the message for those who hear it a more visceral context. As the grito does have its origins to the Mexican war of independence. Which was a fight over justice and equality for indigenous and Mestizos peoples.

The Warning- Dust To Dust/Dull Knives live at The Pepsi Center is the perfect song for this channel. Great example of how to write, perform, and multiple vocalist in rock.

Ms. Zharoff, I am giddy with pleasure and excitement that you covered Rage Against the Machine. As a veteran and survivor of numerous skirmishes and combat zones, I myself related well to the rantings of one Zack De La Rocha. Especially the song “Freedom”, after going into Iraq and fighting for the freedom and independence of another country. I also admire your emotion behind your own feelings behind the voice and music of Rage Against the Machine. It’s not often that we get to live vicariously behind a vocal opera powerhouse such as yourself, I really take into consideration your feelings about the music that I’ve embraced for so long that you yourself have only scratched the surface of. My hats off to you, iAd mire you. Please, never stop admiring the music of our generation, there’s much more to enjoy and critique. Thank you for your voice and critiques of the voices of generations. Thank you, for being a voice to an aging soldier like myself. Respectfully, 1SG Will Carrero, call sign “Wolfman” US Army

as if the invasion of Iraq had been about liberating anyone. Removing Saddam, who had been supported by the USA for decades, was just a side effect. Freedom was not the result, just more slaughter. The USA never fought for freedom. It is a nation built on genocide and slavery.

The ending with all those industrial noises created by the crash and symbols and guitar mimic the first sound you hear when your freedom is taken from you… the sounds of jail gates closing.

For me personally, I require a certain amount of volume with songs like this. If you can't literally feel it, its not loud enough. I want to feel every bass drum hit, every bass note, every guitar squeal, every scream. Personally, music as therapy requires a certain volume probably not just me

Got into this band back in 1993 when Killing in the Name was in the UK charts! They played the wrong (right in my mind) version with the proper ending. Loved them ever since. One more reunion?

This is from wikipedia: On June 10, 2024, Peltier had his first parole hearing since 2009, with a decision on parole being required to come within 21 days.[66] On July 2, 2024, Peltier was denied parole. Still no Freedom... Good reason to listen to this in 2024 again.

he admitted to participating in the shootings in 1999. by law, he is guilty. doesn't matter if it was him that shot the fatal shots. most of the bullets in the cop car were from an ar-15 gun that was found in his car. c'mon. don't be foolish.

React to Primus !!! One of the most interesting bands you will ever listen to . Even tho they’ve been around since 84 with lineup changes Clay Lespool the only sole original band member is simply magical on the bass and with guitarist Larry Lalonde and drummer Tim Alexander together they make greatness

_That's what I been saying!_ She hasn't done several of the best rock bands of the last 20-30 years still. I'd have her dive into QOTSA first. Edit: She desperately needs to get into Tom Waits (then Captain Beefheart) as well.

I graduated in the mid 90s. And RATM opened my mind to so many things. Because of them, I studied all I could on what happened to Spanish and indigenous peoples that were not taught at school. And how much I hated growing up in Southern California and made to feel bad at school for speaking a few words of Spanish to my friends. Rage Against The Machine is probably the greatest name for a band I’ve ever heard. What they stand for and the message they sent was clear as a bell for me. Take the power back ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼

Sounds like you may have needed better friends. At my school in the mid-90s, we embraced it all (Central Valley). I will admit...SoCal is not the bastion of acceptance and open diversity that it markets itself to be. Sorry that you went through that.

@ thanks man. I’m not saying it was all teachers. But throughout my elementary and junior and high school days. There were teachers and staff that openly would say that is allowed or we can’t do that at the school. Elementary was the worst. One teacher telling me we don’t “Speako” Spanish here, okay?? Whoooo if I could go back lol 😆 and yes I wish I had a better lineup of buddies 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
