Important to understand, his ability to do this isn't just "Talent". It's the result of A LOT of training, education, and experience. He has knowledge about song structures and tendencies via music theory that most people don't, and is able to use that knowledge to understand a song much faster than an untrained person could.

Basically, he understands the importance of listening to something before trying to play it. This is actually something that a lot of musicians surprisingly don’t do! A lot of them rely on sheet music or chord charts, especially ones that play in function bands. And when they do listen, they only focus on their instrument rather than what all the instruments do. At least this is what many people have told me

Drums are also one of the only instruments you can map out how to play in your head while listening to the track (if you are good). You don’t have to have the instrument to find chords, scales, melodies. You can tap on your leg to get the feel. At that point it becomes about experience and musical memory
@paulbiner54376 ай бұрын
@@hughjanus5093 Absolutely. I am classically trained in piano over 20 years, but my true love is guitar, but I think drums are the most fun to jam than any other instrument, because you don't have to know what key you are in or frankly deal with melody at all. As long as you can count time signatures and you know what time to change them or add embellishments, you can essentially play any song without much practice at all. To be good at piano or guitar, you have to do that, AND THEN make sure you are in the right key, make sure your melodies are catchy, or atleast have an idea of music theory to hold your own, or you are just gonna sound bad and look really dumb.
