Many years ago. I worked for a food chain called 7/11 in NYC. We were required (by law) to throw away any food that wasn't sold during our shift. Nothing was wrong with the food. But, new deliveries were arriving, So, we had to get rid of what was already there. I used to take home a lot of food and give it to my neighbors. 🙏🏼

17 year ago every weekend I did security guard work at wholesale food supplier . Friday 4 hours before I got there they throw out what they couldn't not deliver . Sealed boxes of stuff. One time 10 dozen bottles of pop that had fake fruit in it . I wouldn't take meat products but there always was load of good stuff . No real reason for trashing it beyond that they could not sell it .

I was expecting the trash bags to be placed in big filthy trash cans. If they are just put outside the establishments like how they are shown in the video, I'd totally consider grabbing the free food.

Most restaurants pour clorox on the food placed in dumsters/trash bags.
@yellowbird541110 ай бұрын
Many stores/restaurants do this just so the group can come and help themselves. The only thing they ask is to retie the bags when they are finished and not make a mess. Dedicated salvagers who want to continue to have a steady and reliable source, will pay attention to make sure everything is left tidy. Dumpster diving is quite an art, and is practiced all over the U.S. You can find a lot of videos on YT showing their dumpster raids. It's appalling what people throw out.

I completely agree with waste reduction programs and that there's so much edible foodwaste. Composting programs make a ton of sense and should be more common. Picking unpackaged food out of street level (rats, roaches, dog pee) garbages bare hand is not exactly the most hygenic action. Wei taking eating raw fish from supermarket garbages is really a gamble.

Nope I just watched a video the other day about how many illegal aliens in New York City are turning down the premade meals that were costing our government $11 apiece. They weren’t good enough for them, they we’re complaining that the pasta was too greasy and the meatballs were frozen in the middle. Tens of thousands of meals thrown in the garbage. They must’ve all been eating like kings back in their own countries, where they should return to.

Many establishments are worried that if their donated food causes food poisoning or worse, they will get sued. So rather than donating the food, they throw it away. Some countries like France have enacted laws that legally protect establishments from lawsuits in this situation so that they can donate their food to charities without fear of lawsuits.
@doordash-m5k3 ай бұрын
american has that protection too but problem is, youn can sue anyone so lawsuits even with no ground still cost money to hire a lawyer to defend against

Simple, twds end of operation. Either sell it for 10% of its retail OR place it out neatly and safely for whoever wants it. Putting them out on the sidewalks in garbage bags is a little off putting for me. It exposes the food to pests and environmental pollution like gutter water, rain, pesticides, etc. Shame to waste food like that though. Have picked used furniture myself till now, but always check for safety and pests before bringing them in. It's totally fine. Funny how western countries always preach abt recycling, environment, organic but they themselves are the BIGGEST consumers of resources globally.

They also don’t talk about all the people starving lol no they talk about “climate hoax”.
