with barely a scratch ;)
Please note: this area is locked down after hours with these accessory locks by security every night & opened every morning, however there is still a "escape door" on another side of building. Doing this would normally violate life safety code, however in this circumstance it has been approved for use since they are not locked during open hours and still have one exit door close by. Just clearing that up before the inevitable question comes in ;)
Thanks for watching! I think this makes my longest video so far.
Woo Hoo 😂

Hahaha, it was good thing that I double checked and read your description before saying crap about having 2 locking mechanism on the same door :-). I thought I saw myself working, no safety goggle(I wear glasses and too lazy to put another glasses on top of it) hands free (even though I have and was going to use keedex jig my spiral bit broke so ended up doing with drill and drill bits only) using the carbide deburring bit made it somewhat easier to clean up the edges later. But I agree that most of instructions or templates made me screw up more so I stopped using the templates on most installations except the Von Duprin door closers. It works great but often times I just use the template to mark/drill one then freehand on the other three screws with using the small level. Wish customers appreciate the details and willing to pay more so we can do more clean installations. Anyhow good job!

Nice work. Hand installs really force accuracy and other skills that aren't always developed when using specialty tools like routers and jigs. But it definitely makes you appreciate the ease and speed at which these kind of jobs can be done. Thanks for the video.

Looked very fiddly. You did it old school.👍🏽 Our locksmiths use a router and a jig but they were cutting in a ton of strikes & mortise locks all the time so I guess that makes sense. 🍺😎✌

I'm glad i have not done very many without a router and the aluminum templates. Have done some with jigsaw and few with just a drill with 1/4" bit and lots of filling.

Catching up on a few older videos. We don't get to see much field work anymore. I love how you mortised out that space and measured evening without the template. I can tell you have done this a few times 😁.

just not fond of them 🤷‍♂️ I’ve had enough cut off wheels zipping past my various body parts to be leery of using them probably the one use I go to for it would be cutting off the stop when installing a rim mount electric strike but that’s a pretty rare use

Hi Jason, I actually watched the full video. That is one insane install ! .... me ? I'd be so scared I would screw up that hole, or shatter the glass ( if you damaged the door I guess you are responsible to replace it - and that is BIG $$ ) .... damn... well you know what you are doing.... what an amazing job. Those special spacer things that you inserted ... you gotta do a video in the shop on those..... I've never seen them before.... are the specific to this type of lock install ? Anyway, amazing end result.... a job well done... I would have rewarded myself with a few beers after that job. Something like that - that insall... it's gotta be $200 to do that... where I'm from .. easily... with the time involved... crazy !

thanks for the video Jason just to let you know I used a Dremel with a wheel for metal cutting and it work a lot faster than a jig saw the first time I did one I made a block for my jig saw to where I did not have to hold the jig saw out and not bonded up so you might want to try it sometime and see the difference between to two myself I like doing it with the Dremel just for your info may save you a lot of work in the future love your vedios and I also pickup some tricks to and if I see anything something your doing and mine might work for you I will let you know and also Happy New Year to you and your family

Watching the end part again, I'm assuming the whole thing is based on the lock that is inserted ( the actual lock cylinder ) this is what gives it the strength.... without it, anyone could bry that off the door ( the latch part ) interesting how the lock itself is what holds it all together and gives it that security ( strength ) You would have to pry the cylinder off and out, get get that latch you installed out of that door.

The mounting tabs, the screws he used to install the the body of the lock to the tabs and The faceplate in the cut out (that's why it can be important to have the right size face plate, some factory cut outs are larger then the standard size, of course in a fresh install it won't be the case), the hook in the frame(the do make a metal reinforcement plate for the frames to add some extra strength) and also the cylinders all help against prying the door open.

No shit? Install a lock with no cylinder; your door is unlocked and can easily be opened. Why is this surprising? A lock locks shit. If you install a lock without a locking mechanism (ie a cylinder and cam), of course it can be bypassed easily; that's kind of why people made locks...

Always enjoy your videos thanks for making them much appreciated. Would metal nibbler help to cut the holes in the door. You sweat your behind off was feeling bad for you. Carry around a wet face towel you can get a heat stroke sweating so much.

SE Lock and Key I wouldn’t be surprised. There was actually a locksmith company that was sued because they didn’t install the spin collar. Some business got broken into by someone grabbing the lock with vice grips and snapping the set screw.
