Loved your take on this. Such great points. I started as a freelancer in 2018 after losing my job, and planned on just doing that until I found a job. It ended up growing in a short few months and I loved what I was doing so the next step for me was starting my agency, hiring a team, etc. Definitely wasn’t in my plan but i do feel like having an agency gives me more freedom to not always feel like I need to work 40+ hour weeks (had a baby, wanted to spend time with him, let my team take on more of the workload). If I was a freelancer I wouldn’t have had that freedom. Long rant but figured it may be helpful!

I very much agree with this. I've been a freelancer for so long and now that I have an agency, the product is no longer ME. As a freelancer, you are the main reason people are working with you and you run into an hour "cap" because you simply can't make more time. With an agency, you can grow and build with the main selling point being a team rather than yourself.

If you're comfortable with it it's best to be an agency, but the answer to that question depends on the type of clients that you work with. If you mostly work with individuals who are starting their company, in the early stages, or maybe are the only employee of their company (or they have a small company), then it's fine for you to be a freelancer because that makes them get that "one-to-one" feel. It's still possible to be a freelancer working with companies also, however companies and organizations are used to working with other companies. When you do work for a company the first thing they're going to do is ask you for your EIN number. You're going to fill out a form for them to put you in the system to receive payments and they're going to ask for your company name, company address, and your tax ID number. You can still be a freelancer and work with companies however it's a little easier to work with companies as an agency (as another company).

I'm a freelancer because I feel both freelancer and an agency have energies. If your energy or your brands energy can not hold up an agency, go as a Freelancer. You can always shift to an agency. It might look a bit odd to go from an agency to a freelancer. Just my two cents. ♡

There is alot of factors as you mention from person to person but everyone start with freelance later on coming question, should I need to open a agency?! Shortly by my opinion if you work as freelance as your second job or from time to time stay where you are its much more confrtable and less stress. If your primary work is freelance and you are doing it great like you have tons of jobs on list of clients etc, then agency I the way.

Hello, new here! I will try freelance work as a beginner to build up my portfolio. I feel like agencies right away may expect a lot of you like your entire time and perfection. I tried this Summer with a marketing internship that made me feel like I was out of place then I just realized that it was that company's work culture. It's important to know what works for you, thank you Latasha!

Hey La! I totally agree with the biases. People do do it whether they'd admit it or not. I believe everyone goes through some kind of discrimination, some very mild others very blatant. But great video and as always honest, open and encouraging! Hope I didn't sound negative-just the way it is. You move forward and definitely don't let it hinder you or nobody will ever really get to see you for who you are! Love you! Mommy

Talked to you on Threads but obviously needed to comment for the alg 0 rhythm 😭 Just a great video with some incredible info about agency vs personal. I do think there can be some assumptions from potential clients on the agency thing! I’m currently moving slowly on setting up my own digital marketing agency along with creator work. I think that I need to dig into your podcast history for more. Thanks for the great info and being accessible!!

Thanks, Krati! That’s a great point. With an agency, expenses go up so even if revenue increases, that doesn’t mean you personally will make more. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Latasha, I sent you a dm almost a week ago regarding your course and you still haven’t got back to me. Surely as a social media manager you should understand the importance of responding to your consumer?

Hey there, thanks for reaching out. You can always email me! I can’t get back to every single DM, many get stuck in the requests folder as I get dozens per day. I also don’t know what user to look for based on the fact that I don’t think your profile picture here is actually you?
