Freelander 1: Fix the 3 warning lights:HDC, ABS, TC: The 3 Amigo’s. Simple fix.

99% of the time these three dashboard warning lights indicate one of the ABS sensors has gone due to age, rust or wear. Here we show how to find what the problem is and where it is located. It does really require an obd2 dongle/ scanner that talks to the ABS ECU on post 2002 model year cars as they use electronic hall sensors with a very high resistance so it is hard to tell which one has failed by measuring resistance of the sensors, unlike the earlier coil based ones, which are around 1000 ohms. The Autel AP200C that I reviewed previously fortunately has that ability on the Freelander 1 as well as other cars.

Great vid. I have a 2001 v6 Freelander, would you recommend me a nice scan tool? I think is a pretty simple ECU (Siemens), but I'm not sure if with a Launch I could read Transmission and ABS codes.

Thanks. I have used an Autel AP200C to read the ABS system, essential for identifying abs sensor faults, as well as normal obd2 stuff. It may have an auto bix add on software bit, but i have not investigated. I suggest you email Autel the seller of that unit. See my review on the ap200c scanner on my channel. I also used it on my recent video fixing “the rhree amigos”. Alternatively its worth looking up pscan.

Hello mate, I really do appreciate your great efforts and awesome channel, I did order the Brake pedal switch for my freelander1 V6 2004. And changed it( of course left it in) . Still is a new problem with Stepper motor which engine does'nt work as it should ,the engine indicator hoes up and doen with the engine is on, it have to order it the new Stepper motor according to car meck. Is it the same Stepper which match the 1.8 engine or 2.5 has the different one( on net just have seen for 1.8) from different websites in EU., I'll so happy for the answer if you could reply today plz🙏🙏. Hi and Thanks. First I would recommend pressing the accelerator pedal to the floor very briefly, this should reset the stepper motor position. @@Bigbadbaza pscan can talk to every ECU on a Freelander 1, except the instrument cluster and the North American spec V6. On the ABS it can do the power bleed brakes routine, and reset the inclination sensor. It can code in central logging fobs. It can log live data to your hard disk whilst you drive around (very useful for intermittent ABS faults). With the 1.8 it can put a SAWS map into the ECU. With the BCU pscan can trigger outputs (you can do things like winding the windows up and down). I have an icarsoft LR3 and won't even connect to many of the ECUs on our Freelander.

Hi, I have a question, 1.8 engines tend to overheat and I'm curious why, I saw the MODIFIED THERMOSTAT HOSE KIT on the internet and now the question is does it help at all?

Nope, but start with the wiring diagram from a Haynes workshop manual and trace that parking light circuit to find the fault, you may find the other fault.

Check the position of the abs sensor on that hub hasn’t been disturbed or damaged.

I have taken the sensor out it looks ok. after watching your video I set up the diagnostic reader to take a reading of the left and right wheel sensors at standstill it is showing 0.66km/h on both sensors but when I start to drive the right one goes up but the left one is lower and a bit erratic so I am going to try getting a new sensor and take it from there. I don't know if this could be the problem but the side shaft I got had a abs ring on but I had to take it of as it would not fit, I did call GSF car-part to see if it was the right one ad this was the only one they had on there system. Ps the one that I took out did not have a ABS Ring.

@@ReneExner I think that could be your problem, I think the later shafts were without a removable abs ring because they had magnets embedded into the shaft. The shafts I used didn't have abs rings (as pere my originals) but worked fine with the abs sensor. Find another supplier perhaps.
