Nice movie...............................To make the oil change easy I drilled a hole through the lower casing bolt and with a copper washer used that as a sump plug.

Good vid. Any reason why you didn’t remove 120ml after brimming as per haynes manual? Any issues?
@FrenchiesRoadTrips2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Scott! 🤩🙏 We didn’t follow the Haynes manual for this job. Instead we spoke to our local Land Rover specialist. To confirm our thoughts, why would you take out 500ml of fluid, put back in approximately the same amount to then remove 120ml 🧐 They advised it wasn’t necessary to remove any fluid but instead to wait for the dribble to stop from the filler plug. Glad to report no issues so far 🙂
@BeavisPits2 жыл бұрын
@@FrenchiesRoadTrips interesting! Wouldn’t be the first time haynes was wrong (“haynes book of lies”). I will brim mine and see if it is ok. If the unit has breather pipes like the haldex then shouldn’t be any issues with heat/pressure.

@@BeavisPits 😂 We did scratch our heads and think that doesn’t sound right! Luckily our local specialist was able to confirm the procedure. Which does make complete sense. Why Haynes advise on removing 120ml of the oil you have just replaced is somewhat of a mystery! If anything it would leave it short of oil, not good! It certainly does have a breather 🙂 Have used it since the oil change and nothing yet 🙏

@FrenchiesRoadTrips Жыл бұрын
Bonjour!

Great videos guys, shame about Ben's car, hope it all goes well. Could you show us where the pcv oil breather is located? I'm not sure if I have one on my 2103 sd4 but would hate to miss it in a service cos of my lack of knowledge 🤣. Cheers guys. 👍
@FrenchiesRoadTrips2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 🙏 Hopefully it will be back on the road soon 🙂 Ok, so the PCV breather is located at the top back end of the engine. It’s underneath the air intake pipe. LR004200 part number 👍 Should be done every 40/50k miles.

Seems like an easy enough job, if a tad fiddley. How much oil does the PTU take? Not sure why but I expected more then 500ml. Thank you for showing the process.
@FrenchiesRoadTrips2 жыл бұрын
Was a bit fiddly but overall a satisfying job! 😁 It takes around 700ml but you will struggle to get all that out. Definitely use a pump, you may struggle with a syringe!
@MikeSmith-tg1ku2 жыл бұрын
It does take more the correct way to do it is to fully empty the Unit put around 750ml of oil in until it flows out of the filler plug hole then take out 120ml of oil out to get the correct level. Because of where the filler plug is and with a piece of metal just behind the hole It's not an easy job to to do according to the book. That's why I made my own empty plug. I get myself further away to the middle of the car so I can see the plug.

I need a new ptu shaft on my 2011 freelander 110,000 miles as it makes a horrible noise whilst driving had a quote £7500 unbelievable !! guy said still ok to drive but just put up with the noise so radio on bit louder than normal 🙁

Oh no! That’s not good Simon 😞 Are you within the UK? You could try Bell Engineering, well known within the FL2 community. Hope you get it sorted soon 🤞🙏

@@FrenchiesRoadTrips hi Simon, i have recently Purchased a PTU from Bell engineering, Awsome to deal with next day delivery fully rebuilt with new splines fused on & a new Sleeve as well all for approx £795 next day delivery. so far its been great although i didnt replace the gearbox oil seals (3) & may have damaged the seals while welding a Nut onto the end of the stuck old sleeve to remove from the end of the gearbox as it was stuck , in the process of replacing the oil seals on the gear box as we speak, Once out easy enough but yes i can recommend Bell engineering the seem really helpful decent company.

The Haynes manual says top up until it dribbles out the remove 120cc otherwise you get over pressure 🫣
