Most people have a deviation to some degree. Even if you have a deviated septum, it doesn't mean that is the cause of your breathing issues. There could be other things causing your problems that can be treated without surgery. Always try to fix your medical problems in other ways before just casually going under the knife.

This surgery ruined my health. Most people don't even need the surgery. Look it up online: about 80 percent of people have a deviated septum. But 80 percent of people don't have congestion. So, just because you have a deviated septum doesn't mean it's causing your sinus problems. There are several other things that can cause breathing issues. This surgery can cause nasal nerve pain, worse breathing problems, vision problems, and Trigeminal Neuralgia.

I have a deviated septum and I will often get stuffy when lying down and can't breathe through one of my nasal cavities. I also always have a slightly runny nose especially when its cold. Are these symptoms that would warrant surgery? Also, the side of my nose where the septum veers to (left nostril) is slightly convex. Whereas the right side of my nose is slightly concave. Would surgery correct this asymmetry, making the convex side more concave like the right side?

Not sure if I have this, but think I do. If I look at my nose from below with a camera, one of my nostrils looks a much narrower opening than the other. If I also feel the inside of my left nostril, I have a bump/lump on my upper nasal wall, against the center. If I feel it and push my nose so it has even openings on both sides, the lump reduces. I was worried it was a tumour, but I think it's this. I also have started getting mild sore throats. Does this sound like DNS?
