It’s actually not the same bike 😬. The xj that I tured with still has many issues I just fixed this one first as it was the easiest way to have a xj back on the street. I still want to fix the xj from the Turing videos but the bike has so so many issues wich are then too tough to tackle for me as a complete beginner so it’s good that I am lerning first on the same bike ☺️

Wipe off the forks, ride this bike 20-30km and see if the line is there. Sometimes the seals get dry and might still seal if they get soaked in oil.

I owned a 600 Divvy around 20 years ago and sold it not long after. It's a great motorbike, reliable, comfy, lightweight, handles well, but man...that engine is gutless as hell. I mean, I'm not a speed demon like some folk, but I do need a bike engine to scare me every now and then....this bike never could.

If the fork tubes and the lower fork parts aren't wet from oil then those fork seals are good. What i would check is how the fork behaves, does it 'pogo' up and down when you push the handle bars firmly with the brake on? In that case the fork oil is probably done and needs changed. There are basically 2 ways: 1. Dump & fill method. Remove tge fork leg, open it up and dump out all oil. Add some white spirit or maybe even gasoline and push the tube in and out a few times. This will clean out the inside parts. Dump it all out. If you look at the old used oil you'll see that it's black with possibly some silvery particles in there. If that is the case it was definitely high time for that oilchange. 2. Complete disassembly of the legs, clean, inspect and change worn parts. The new oil that goes in there needs to be specific fork oil. You can use the specified weight of oil like 10w or you can go 1 or 2 weight thicker 15w or 20w if you desire a former dampening action. The amount of oil you need to put in each leg is specified in a workshop manual. Why is that important? Its important because there needs to be a defined AIRPOCKET between the oil and the cap of the leg. This air also acts like a fine spring and it alows the oil to expand when it gets hot. If you have a garage or shed you can hang the front wheel up from the ground using a roof beam and a stap. That way you can safely remove the wheel and guard and hang the calipers out of the way. (Make a mental note where any axel spacers and speedo drive go.) Then you can losen the bolts from the tripletree clamps and slide the leg out. Do 1 by one. That makes it easier when you go reassemble everything. If you don't have access to a garage or shed use the middle stand and LOAD the rear of the seat with something HEAVY. That way the front wheel of the bike will stay off the ground so you can safely do the job. Afterburner: if you can't find specific fork oil you need there are 2 alternative options that also work: A. hydraulic oil like the stuff you use in forklifts or aircompressors. (A motorcycle fork is not much different then a hydraulic cylinder if you think about it) B. The other second option is ATF (automatic transmission fluid, it has about the viscocity of 20w and in an automatic transmission it also does lubrication at pressure and high temps but in addition to that it has many 'dopes' in it that keeps oil seals supple, it keeps debris particles suspended. In other words: ATF works too!

Ist immer ein toller Moment wenn die Maschine dann anspringt, nach der ganzen Arbeit. Das mit der Batterie ist schon nervig. Man hat halt selten eine Ersatzbatterie zu Hause. Empfehlen kann man da nur diese Powerbanks fürs Auto. Benutzen die Profis auch in den Schraubervideos. Die Diversion ist schon ein schickes Motorrad. Vor allem in diesem Dunkelgrün mit Doppelbremsscheibe vorne und den Ziernähten an der Sitzbank. Genau so eine war auch meine Fahrschulmaschine vor über 20 Jahren. 👍 Bin schon gespannt auf das Entrosten des Tanks. Da gibts ja auch einige Möglichkeiten. Zum Beispiel: Tank mit Steinen füllen und rotieren, Zitronensäure, Strom etc... 😅

pro tip, when tightening the bolts on the battery , use a ratchet and socket to finish off and get the bolts tight. the screwdriver is just to get the bolts started in the thread.

@@Orionleo haha yes I am literally using old laptop headphones from the early 2000 with a lightning adapter. Because headphones are super expensive. I have been using them soo long that all the fabric on them is gone. I use them for editing and also for going jogging. The thing with modern cable headphones is that they break often relatively quickly and then the money is gone. These ones have been lasting me for quite some time. I like them by now ☺️

Honestly you probably have a small piece of dirt stuck in your fork seal. My RE Interceptor had a line of oil like that on the left fork tube, i cleaned the seal with a home-made tool then compressed the fork a few dozen times to exercise the seal, and the fork tube has been clean and dry for the past 1800 miles. Knowing what not to work on is also a skill. I used a tool like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWavY35ohb16qqMsi=AOSp10ANGNsQhK1I Also do you own a torque wrench? If you remove your fork tubes from the triple clamps, you will need to clean any oil from the clamps and fork tubes with solvent or even soap and water before reassembling, then tighten the clamp bolts to the torque spec. Also on any old bike I'd recommend that you verify correct torque on all engine mount bolts and nuts, it will make a difference. Also i liked that you replaced all of the bodywork screws, very well done.

Fork seals are done, but since it is not upside-down design you can still ride it for thousands of km if you have to.

I was sure that the bike would start, Japanese bikes are immortal, I have to say that the oil inside didn't seem too bad from the color, but it's always better to start from scratch when restoring a bike. Another nice thing are the rims, those three aerodynamically modeled spokes give it an ever-modern touch. Best wishes for the tank and forks.

Change both Fork-seals. This gives access to the fork-springs which leaves a lot of people thinking; Should I invest roughly €85,- on a new set of fork-springs also❓ if I do it will bring to light on how worn out my rear-shock is and that could mean another €350;- which was the cost of the whole motorcycle. Just being aware of the choices available. You should be sort of 🆗 with new seals and fresh oil in your forks,which needs to be exactly measured. Best greets from Düsseldorf

You should be able to find a specification for fork spring free length. If your fork springs are in spec there is no need to replace them.

Man, you say you bought the bike for 350 euros, it would be interesting to hear how much of that time you spent on parts and consumables. I think the time you spend working with the motorcycle should be added to these expenses. Maybe it's worth buying a well-maintained motorcycle right away? What do you think given your past experience?

Konkrete Beispiele wären: - Reparaturanleitungen. Die gibts quasi zu fast jedem Modell. Gibts auch für die 600er Diversion um die 40 Euro - KZbin Schrauber-Tutorials. Gibts zu neueren Modellen eher weniger, bei älteren Modellen und denen mit Vergaser meist mehr. - Auf den Seiten von Motorradzubehörversandhändlern gibts auch fast für jedes Problem Anleitungen. Siehe z.B. bei Polo oder Louis Schraubertipps - Oder "Das Schrauberhandbuch" von Jannek und Nepomuk. Universelles Nachschlagewerk welches auch vieles an den Motorrädern erklärt und Tipps und Tricks für die Reparatur gibt.
