I have my arduino ide pulled up but my tutorial doent tell me where to enter the code and i get a stray "\" in program code. Any idea. Im stuck on the very first line of code. Just trying to get that light to blink.

Did you open the Blink.ino example or select File->New Sketch. If you haven't tried File->New Sketch, I would try that. That should give you an empty setup() and loop() routing with at few comments. If it doesn't then there is something wrong with your IDE. HTH

My piece no matter what cable it wont turn on, like it doesn’t turn green no matter what

Does the blue light blink or come on the esp32? You could test the led if your multimeter has a diode test function.
