Sir, my exams are very very soon, & I have watched your videos from the very beginning. I want to thank you for making these videos because I don't think I would've been the slightest bit confident about my science exams as I'm taking triple. I am going through your videos with my flashcards and completing exam questions after every topic. I hope this is ok enough for me as I feel like I'm not doing enough... thank you once again though.

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad that you're finding the videos helpful. Can I check that you made your own flashcards? The ones that were on my website are for the old spec and should not be used.

Yes, I have made my own flashcards, I thought so that those flashcards were for the old spec so didn't bother using them.

What is the definition of a causal mechanism? I’m a bit confused on the difference between a correlation and causal mechanism 💔
@Freesciencelessons7 ай бұрын
A causal mechanism is a scientific explanation for something. We can scientifically explain the link between cigarette smoking and cancer in terms of increased mutations. A correlation simply states that two things appear to show a link (eg cigarette smokers have a higher incidence of lung cancer than non-smokers). A correlation does not explain what causes the link. And in fact, just because two things show a correlation does not show that one causes the other (that's why you also need a causal mechanism).

Soo, how do you know wheter a risk factor is linked to a non-communicable disease? Is it to study the patterns of the disease to know the risk factors of the certain disease and see if there is a correlation or link? Thank you x
@Freesciencelessons6 жыл бұрын
Yes for non-communicable diseases, you need to study the patterns of disease. This is called epidemiology.

@@Freesciencelessons Sir whats the difference between correlation adn a causal mechanism
@Freesciencelessons4 жыл бұрын
A correlation is when two factors appear to increase or decrease together (or one could increase and the other decrease). This does not mean that one factor is CAUSING the increase or decrease of the other factor. They could be completely unlinked. A causal mechanism is a possible scientific explanation for HOW one factor could cause another factor to increase or decrease. However, a causal mechanism does not PROVE a link, it just explains how there could be a link.
