The downsides start soon as you pay for the damn thing!!!

okay, i'm old and stodgy and irritable.. but jeez louise!!! For goodness sake, can't you find a human to do your voiceovers? I never made it past the second criticism, though having started construction fifty years ago (literally), I think I'm able to deal with the downsides of the tub choice my wife has made. I came here hoping to get a little technical help. Nicely done video, though.

Agree. Great information but electronic voice make it look very impersonal and industrial.

I’m not even going to watch because of that voice over. 😢😮

Completely agree. The artificial voice pausing at awkward intervals is extremely annoying.

I love these tubs, but so often no one discusses the additional weight of the tub, plus water and a person or persons, and making sure the existing structure (in the case of a remodel) can handle the load. The most annoying thing to me is that a great deal of money can be spent for the look, but often towel bars and more importantly, grab bars are left out of the equation. I had several bad falls as a young woman that would have kept me unable to use a tub such as these for a fairly long period of time. One doesn't need to be elderly to slip and fall, and it is so annoying, in this era of some gorgeous, non-institutional looking grab bars, that the majority of installations I have seen are completely lacking in this regard.

How come I never see any free-standing soaker tub manufacturer include a safety grab bar around the top edges for ease of entry? They can be as beautiful as anyone would like. Surprised a safety organization and/or AARP hasn't gotten involved over the years. Who hasn't heard of seniors falling in the tub?

Shoot I am having a hard time even finding a house with a tub in the primary. Giant showers instead. What I would like to know is the cost of a remodel changing from a giant shower to a regular sized shower and separate tub. House hunting now and this has been a real problem because I don't shower EVER and don't want to traipse upstairs to a kids bathtub to take a bath every night.

I'm halfway into a total bathroom renovation which includes a free-standing soaker tub. I think I've anticipated all the negatives pointed out in the comments to the great video but have yet to decide where to put the grab bars plus, because I have a small alcove in which to fit the tub, I've told my contractor that I want the tub partially surrounded. That will give me a shelf for shampoo, soap, etc.... plus, the filler valve and handheld shower and I won't have to worry about cleaning behind the tub. I'm hoping that my contractor will be able to deal with the partial surround but I've made a note of Groysman's contact info. in case I need him to intervene.

I’ve always hated getting in & out of free standing bathtubs. They’re pretty to look at, but most I’ve tried are also uncomfortable to soak in. When I stay at a hotel that has one, I’m always disappointed.

Can freestanding tubs be installed on 2nd floor where there is no access to underfloor?
@dwrldgster3151 Жыл бұрын
Yea just have a overflow that will drain faster than the tub fills. And don’t buy a 300pound one.

Totally impractical and really for show only. I've installed dozens of these and personally would never put one in my own house. They did get me to retirement a little sooner though.

What would you suggest for a full body immersion since a standard tub/shower combo is never big enough?

@@magicmarlymarl Kohler underscore is pretty deep at 19" but the English made Albion Tubby Torro Duo is much deeper at 27" but it is freestanding. 19" is pretty deep and you can have it installed as a undercount for a very sleek look.

There is one that is very attractive by Aquatica. It looks like a regular freestanding tub.

Looks great but impractical for use. How do you step into a wet bowl? Who takes a bath? Just buy a hot tub!
@jmontgomery328 ай бұрын
Impractical? Who takes a bath? Well I can tell you my wife and daughter take a bath every single day. In a lot of days my wife just wants to soak in it for a while so a big soaking tub is completely practical. I have no idea what you're even babbling about. That's like saying cars are impractical because we have airplanes 🤦

Add to that... the fact they are SO impractical, they will be dated in less that a decade. In my opinion, they are a fad much more than an upgrade... Thank you very much for that video. Last fad: a glass freestanding tub at about 25K US$. I tried to talk my clients out of this idea, to no avail...
@pippadawg70372 жыл бұрын
It is quite a fad that is still going strong some 2 decades after freestanding tubs first appeared on the market. They won't become dated any sooner than any other design element. I am glad your clients didn't let you talk them out of the glass tub they wanted. I quit letting contractors talk me out of my design aspirations a long time ago. When we remodeled the kitchen the contractors tried to talk us out of cabinets that went all the way up to the ceiling. Short cabinets were one fad builders seemed to love and embrace. He also tried to talk me out of drawers instead of cabinet doors in my island and the same in my new window seats. I don't like cabinet doors. I like drawers. When we remodeled the powder room the contractor tried to talk us out of a wall mounted faucet. I just insisted on everything I wanted. Why can't you just give people what they want?
