My diabetic nurse has recommended these and she put on my first one. I put on my second while watching this ever so helpful video. Thank you so much. Also, you echoed her advice in talking about staying in range being the most important thing as I felt kind of stressed and helpless after the first week, especially when testing after meals. I have already been woken up a couple of times in the night by low glucose alarms. I wonder how often this has been happening without me realising. In the long term, this is going to make it so much easier to adjust my long acting and short acting insulin appropriately.

Thank you for the alternative areas you found to be helpful for yourself. I am definitely going to try the chest area the next time I have to change my sensor which will be in 14 days since I just changed it this morning before seeing your video.

I just started my Libre 3 today with the reader. What a great option. I don’t have to worry about running better down. I will eventually try the APP as my doctor would want to see the results. Also I started on the abdomen as my arm is so skinny I was afraid it’s going to hurt. Surprisingly, the abdominal site did not hurt, though my reading was off by 20 points. The sensor: 131; BG: 112. So I will take with the grain of salt. I only use insulin when I eat, so this approximation will be OK. Just want to say thank you for all the videos. I watch so many of them before I started and you have reduced my anxiety.

Hi I learned a lot from your video. I have a question, I put a new sensor on and scanned it with the unit. It’s working fine. I just downloaded the liber 2 app for my IPhone. A note came up , the sensor you just scanned was started by another device and cannot be used. I can go not farther in the app set up now. Im guessing that you can only use your phone or the libre 2 sensor but not both. Am I missing something? What do you think?

I have noticed that as well. According to a lot of Reddit users it can't be relied on as well within the 1st 12 hours or so. I find it usually seems fine after only about 3 or 4 like your assessment as well. There's probably a sort of curve. Maybe they take some averages to compare for accuracy per each person? I don't know if they're quite that advanced.

Hi Tom, for me I learned that we should not cover the middle spot of the sensor! Ups! I use the arm and for me use to be fine even without covering most of the times...in summer I cover it because indeed is most exposed. This summer for first time I had like an infection all around the place where I have the sensor...I have found a very strong tape which I thought was great but after 3 days of swimming with it intensively I started feeling bad, when I took it off thank god I did it was not going well! Now you mentioned it could be was for the middle spot being totally covered! Ah also removing with oil I dont do and looks works better👍 thanks a lot!

The sensor would sometimes get caught on my clothing when I was dressing and I found a cheap DIY solution. I took a loose cotton sock and cut about 3-inch strip from the top. That created a makeshift 3-inch wide arm band that I simply pulled over the sensor. Just make sure the sock is clean and not tight. While this will cover the middle spot of the sensor, I figure it is no different than wearing any other clothing since the material is just cotton. As far as I know the instructions do not prevent wearing the sensor under clothing, do they? Anyway, now anytime I end up loosing a sock in the laundry I just use the remaining sock to create another “arm band” Loose-fitting white cotton athletic socks work great and become virtually invisible under white shirt. Of course, if you have large muscles, this may not work for you since a sock may be too tight. You don’t want the sensor to be squeezed. You just want it to stay in place and avoid hard edges that can get caught in your clothing. If the sensors were tapered off around the edges, it would help a great deal.

There are companies online that send out different covers that you apply and usually stick for the 14 days. "Stay Put" is one company. They sent me my patches and I learned to cut them in half and each one has an area straight down the middle that I cut in half. There are 10 in one pack. I ordered enough for the year and emergencies such as when the dew points are extremely high I have to watch that it does not fall off. They are inexpensive.

Hi Tom, thanks for the many useful tips! Very informative video! For me the most useful tip was the advice not to fully cover the Libre sensor with a tape. I just did not know about that at all - I guess one should always read the instruction fully and carefully! ; ) Usually I am wearing the Libre on the upper arms covered with a - blue coloured : ) - strip of kinesiology athletic tape. Then I place the MiaoMiao reader on top of the tape on the sensor (with the adhesive patch coming along with the MiaoMiao) and secure it also with another strip of tape. This way the sensor and the reader are well protected against accidental bumps against door frames and also while exercising and swimming (last one not for too long, though). Now with this new piece of information I think I need to reconsider my usual method. Maybe I will cut a little hole in the tape covering the sensor. Thank you again!
@TypeOneTalks4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andreas. Thank you for your comment. I use patch to protect my sensor too from time to time. Especially during hot days when I sweat a lot or when I go swimming. I did not see negative impact on my personal readings but I know the manufacturer does recommend not covering the whole. If it works for you the way you are used to with a tape I would not necessarily change your approach. If you see incorrect readings only then it probably makes sense to change the approach. Hope this helps. Have a great day!

I'm curious about this as well. Did you ever figure out how to do both? I have the Pixel 6 Pro and it's been working fine with it... As far as I can tell. It always reads a bit under for me as a prediabetic T2 but I didn't know about the 10 min delay he mentions here. Could be that. Anyway I would like to be able to compare readings with the reader I had to buy for $65 when I got the system because I never use it otherwise. Waste of $. My doc told me it only worked with iPhones and prescribed one. He must not be up to speed on the Android world.

Hey Tom. You could make a video about how diabetes care work in Switzerland. On how much is covered by the healthcare system and what you need to pay for yourself. It could create some very interesting discussions on how DB care is handled in different countries.

Thanks Tom for this great video. I didn't realize that I shouldn't cover the hole on the sensor. I always cover it with a tegaderm!! Where can I find more info about that? Or should I just make a small hole on the tegaderm for it to "breathe"?
@TypeOneTalks4 жыл бұрын
You are most welcome. Glad you found it useful. Regarding "not covering the whole", this is a recommendation by Abbott. I believe it is in the Q&A section on their website. Sometimes I cover it with a tape too and I personally did not have issues with that but others might....

Tom, Wow thanks for the excellent tutorial, amazing and straight to the point. I just acquired and install the Libre last night and follow all steps first scan new sensor with reader and then with my iPhone , waited for an hour and that's when the arm sensor decide Not to work, the reader is telling me that I need a New sensor and the iPhone scans OK but is telling me that sensor ended. Yes, I'm 64 and very frustrated, I left the sensor installed on my arm to see that during the course of the day will change, but nothing still the same. Now should I use another sensor and you said very well that Abbott can replace malfunction sensor with a New one. Please just give a heads up and a quick advise if you would, Thanks JR Lopez

I was told you couldn't use the reader and phone for my mom libre2, and i scanned with my phone. Of course, almost a year later, i learned that i could have done both. I'm thinking about the libre 3 for my mom, so i will make sure to scan with the reader first next time. She doesn't have a cell phone, so when I'm away, it would be convenient for her to have the reader at home with her

I use the Skin Grips to protect my sensor. How do I not cover the center of the sensor, do I have to use a hole punch and put a hole in the Grip or ? so far I have been using the Skin Grips as they are and seem to have no problems but I do not know if Humidity is affected

Well... I'm not a diabetic patient but i use meters to check which food rises my glucose and which doesn't cause i enjoy doing intermittent fasting and keto sometimes besides, i don't like carbs cause they make my stomach bloat and that means i want to do blood glucose checkup every now and then and precisely after each different type and amount of food consumed, so is it good to use libre or better to stick to my Freestyle Lite!

Also, if you have insurance and live in the USA, J&B Medical supply will send you the FreeStyle Libre 2 system for free. Not sponsored or affiliated. Just want to put that out there for people. They send you 6 sensors with an occasional 7th, 2 times a year to make up for the days you have extra in a month. I am getting my first box of sensors tomorrow! I have been buying them and I couldn't believe they were sending me 7 sensors for free!!!

I love this thing. I had been only checking my blood sugar (type 2) 1-2 times daily at the same time every day and I was under the illusion that I was doing pretty well. Little did I know I was having blood sugar spikes while I was sleeping, during waking and worst, after morning coffee. I'm in the process of finding a better coffee creamer and releasing my addiction to Coffee Mate French Vanilla (5 gm sugar)! Tough to replace, but stepping down to combo of Califia (3 gm sugar) and Nut Pods (0 sugar). Pretty darned good and eyes open for even better. I bought about 6 types from Whole Foods lol My late husband had been type 1 for over 40 years and passed in Jan 21. He tested the very first insulin pump. It was the size of a large office printer!! He really deserved to have this, but it was cost prohibitive when it first came out. His doc didn't even prescribe it. I feel somewhat guilty for using it now with my self-imposed diabetes. I'm using low carb and fasting to get under control. It's going to be a lot easier with this! Cauliflower rice with broccoli and chicken doesn't affect my blood sugar AT ALL. Shocking. Such an interesting time to be alive. Thank you for teaching me how to apply it for the first time! I got a free sample from Abbott and I'm hooked. I've had it about 24 hours now! lol

Your best off using regular cream. Make sure it’s plain cream with no sugar added. I use a little 38% cream in my coffee. The higher fat means less sugar from milk lactose. I’m type one and have been low carb since diagnosed in 1999.

Good info. I thought scan would only give you current reading. Didn’t know it gives you last 8 hours.
@TypeOneTalks4 жыл бұрын
Good point. It gives you a current reading (number) and reads/show you the chart for the past 8 hours (but not all the numbers during this 8 hour interval). Thanks for the correction!
@MarcLombart4 жыл бұрын
If you sync your reader to the Libreview website, or make an account and use the Librelink app, each time you scan the data gets uploaded. From the site, you can download a CSV file with all the readings, not just the values you saw when scanned. On the site, all the readings at 15-minute intervals are kept. Also, the graphs, on the reader, phone and site use the full data, not just the scans in your logbook.

For anyone curious… I’ve tried the chest insertion site a few times to give it a fair shot! Insertion was painless but each time it ended up being painful/annoying when wearing a bra or a seat belt.

I tried once on the chest, and had the same experience, plus I am larger than most, so it's not an ideal flat space for me. :(

On one video you said to insert sensor 24 hours before you need it. That allows the sensor to get better adjusted than just the 60 minutes I’d forces you to wait. How do you force activation when needed or does just scanning it with phone activate it?
