This is glorious, I've been looking for "freestyle libre glucose reading is unavailable" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Camebattian Mysterious Convenience - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a great one of a kind product for discovering how to end your diabetes problem minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my buddy got amazing success with it.

If you sync your reader to the Libreview website, or make an account and use the Librelink app, each time you scan the data gets uploaded. From the site, you can download a CSV file with all the readings, not just the values you saw when scanned. On the site, all the readings at 15-minute intervals are kept. Also, the graphs, on the reader, phone and site use the full data, not just the scans in your logbook.

Hi I learned a lot from your video. I have a question, I put a new sensor on and scanned it with the unit. It’s working fine. I just downloaded the liber 2 app for my IPhone. A note came up , the sensor you just scanned was started by another device and cannot be used. I can go not farther in the app set up now. Im guessing that you can only use your phone or the libre 2 sensor but not both. Am I missing something? What do you think?
@jpny4750
@jpny4750 4 жыл бұрын
The sensor would sometimes get caught on my clothing when I was dressing and I found a cheap DIY solution. I took a loose cotton sock and cut about 3-inch strip from the top. That created a makeshift 3-inch wide arm band that I simply pulled over the sensor. Just make sure the sock is clean and not tight. While this will cover the middle spot of the sensor, I figure it is no different than wearing any other clothing since the material is just cotton. As far as I know the instructions do not prevent wearing the sensor under clothing, do they? Anyway, now anytime I end up loosing a sock in the laundry I just use the remaining sock to create another “arm band” Loose-fitting white cotton athletic socks work great and become virtually invisible under white shirt. Of course, if you have large muscles, this may not work for you since a sock may be too tight. You don’t want the sensor to be squeezed. You just want it to stay in place and avoid hard edges that can get caught in your clothing. If the sensors were tapered off around the edges, it would help a great deal.

There are companies online that send out different covers that you apply and usually stick for the 14 days. "Stay Put" is one company. They sent me my patches and I learned to cut them in half and each one has an area straight down the middle that I cut in half. There are 10 in one pack. I ordered enough for the year and emergencies such as when the dew points are extremely high I have to watch that it does not fall off. They are inexpensive.

Hi Tom, I've watched a few of your videos recently. I just wanted to note for anyone here that with the Libre 2 you have to choose between the reader OR your phone to scan with. When the app was released for the Libre 2 I downloaded it and tried to scan a new sensor after activating it with the reader and I was given an error that the sensor was activated with a different device and I couldn't use my phone until the next sensor. I also called customer support and they confirmed that it has to be either the reader or the phone. =(

BTW, I was very disappointed to learn that these sensors are not only quite expensive, they are also considered disposable after 14 days. I am thinking of the added environmental waste created by these. Since I haven't looked into the science of how these work yet, I am just slightly suspicious that they are purposely designed for a minimum lifespan in order to ensure increased profits. I'm not a conspiracist... maybe I will think differently after understanding how the technology works? LOL

Hey Tom, thank you for all the great tips and information. I'm from Brazil and my 4-year-old boy is type 1 since april. He has used Freestyle libre on his skinny arms since then but latelly it has developed a strong alergy on his skin. I searched on the internet for alternative sites for placement and your videos were the first I found. I'm going to try the hips for the first time, because he already uses the I-port advance on his thigh. Thank you again for the help and the confidence you've made me feel.

My diabetic nurse has recommended these and she put on my first one. I put on my second while watching this ever so helpful video. Thank you so much. Also, you echoed her advice in talking about staying in range being the most important thing as I felt kind of stressed and helpless after the first week, especially when testing after meals. I have already been woken up a couple of times in the night by low glucose alarms. I wonder how often this has been happening without me realising. In the long term, this is going to make it so much easier to adjust my long acting and short acting insulin appropriately.

I have noticed that as well. According to a lot of Reddit users it can't be relied on as well within the 1st 12 hours or so. I find it usually seems fine after only about 3 or 4 like your assessment as well. There's probably a sort of curve. Maybe they take some averages to compare for accuracy per each person? I don't know if they're quite that advanced.

Hi Tom - Great stuff, watched several of them a few times. Just got my Freestyle Libre 14 and tried following the tips you provided, but it would not let me do both reader and my android phone. I got an error when I tried to read from the phone that the sensor was already in use by another device. Abbott documentation says I can do one or the other, not both. Is there a hack that lets the sensor be read anyway?
@benjmiester
@benjmiester 2 жыл бұрын
I'm curious about this as well. Did you ever figure out how to do both? I have the Pixel 6 Pro and it's been working fine with it... As far as I can tell. It always reads a bit under for me as a prediabetic T2 but I didn't know about the 10 min delay he mentions here. Could be that. Anyway I would like to be able to compare readings with the reader I had to buy for $65 when I got the system because I never use it otherwise. Waste of $. My doc told me it only worked with iPhones and prescribed one. He must not be up to speed on the Android world.

It is sad that Abbott is pushing for and dumping the Freestyle Libre 1 in India still. They now have promotions for the reader . The App does not work for the sensors sold in India so one has to by default buy the reader and cannot use the most convenient way… the app. And it is very costly there. On the other hand in Europe the Libre 3 has been released and is much cheaper. Why this discrimination?

What area of the phone that you use to scan depends on where your phone's NFC reader is. Not all phone's NFC reader is on from the front. Most iPhones are however most Androids are not. Please refer to your own phone's NFC documentation to see reader is. Tom, I think this video was good information however when making video about a CGM device such as the Freestyle Libre 2 CGM please consider that not all people use Apple products and the CGM is compatible with all phones that have a NFC reader. Beware lot of sensors are faulty and give a very low result for eg it will show you a normal fasting level of 5 when it is actually 8. You need to test it with the finger prick meters to be sure. I had reduced my medications due to this and was shocked when my HBA1c results came much higher. I am using this for the last couple of years (spent thousands of dollars on this) and have decided to discontinue using it.

@@TypeOneTalks The problem I have is why are some sensors very accurate and others way out even though I take all care to make sure I install them perfectly and take care of them while they are on my arm. Earlier when I reported faulty sensors to Abbott they immediately would send me a replacement but the replacement would also give wrong readings so it failed the purpose. I told them no point sending me replacements tell me what am I doing wrong, they told me check Libre readings after 5 or 10 mins after finger prick but that too was still way out most of the time. I was type 2 and on the verge of becoming type 1 when I started using this. A few times I have just discarded the sensor after 4 to 5 days as the readings were way off, there was no point, I felt I was fooling myself. Some times I have discarded the sensor after a couple of days as it was for some reason very painful. I would get up with pain in the middle of the night when I changed position while sleeping on the arm with sensor. It would be great if they would guarantee perfect sensors all the time. Even though I am buying them at full price at my expense I would not mind if they were all accurate. Some sensors give me perfect readings matching to my 2 finger prick meters from Accuchek which I use for comparison. Since last several months they do not offer replacement and ask me to get letter from doctor if they were to support the product for me. Even when the product failed totally after 3 to 4 days saying sensor failed and ended earlier than 14 days they refused to help me saying that I am type 2 and so not covered for support. I know several type 1 who are having the same issues of low readings and readings that are way off the finger prick readings. I now rely only on the finger prick readings.

Libre sensor is a step inthe right direction. It is better than the guardian sensor which is very cumbersome and unpleasant due to the long procedure, bump and ridiculous adhesives required!!! That said, this sensor LACKS the most IMPORTANT feature, periodic auto bluetooth comm with the iphone!!! There is absolutely NO NEED for me to have to manually scan, if this thing can ping the iphone with a autoread every 5, 10 or 15 minutes. I have had several glycemic incidents at 2:00 AM when I am sleeping, had the sensor communicated automatically with my phone, an alarm could have been triggered before I hit the critical 50 blood glucose level. I think this is a HUGE MISS by the vendor who should immediately update the new sensor with that capability.

Good job. Very practical and clear. The sensor removal procedure was very helpful as were the alternate sensor locations on the body. BTW, "ascorbic acid" is vitamin C and "salicylic acid" is aspirin.

You are most welcome. Glad you found it useful. Regarding "not covering the whole", this is a recommendation by Abbott. I believe it is in the Q&A section on their website. Sometimes I cover it with a tape too and I personally did not have issues with that but others might....

I got sick with Covid and they’re finding that in 12% of people it can kill your pancreas and cause type one I am learning all about all this and I have to say your videos have been very helpful it’s really great to have somebody who’s been dealing with it for 30 years(i’m very sorry you have been dealing with it for 30 years) But your videos have givien me all kinds of information and I really appreciate someone like you out there helping us that are new to it. I wish you were a little more in depth how to link my phone and my reader at the same time is there a certain amount of time you need to do it because I’ve linked up my sensor and then at the end of the 60 minutes I can’t link both maybe I’m doing something wrong. Either way for someone who is new and just learning about type one diabetes I really appreciate your videos I’ve been watching quite a few I wish you a long and healthy life and as knowledgeable as you seem hopefully that will happen thank you very much for helping us newcomers

Hi Tom, thanks for the many useful tips! Very informative video! For me the most useful tip was the advice not to fully cover the Libre sensor with a tape. I just did not know about that at all - I guess one should always read the instruction fully and carefully! ; ) Usually I am wearing the Libre on the upper arms covered with a - blue coloured : ) - strip of kinesiology athletic tape. Then I place the MiaoMiao reader on top of the tape on the sensor (with the adhesive patch coming along with the MiaoMiao) and secure it also with another strip of tape. This way the sensor and the reader are well protected against accidental bumps against door frames and also while exercising and swimming (last one not for too long, though). Now with this new piece of information I think I need to reconsider my usual method. Maybe I will cut a little hole in the tape covering the sensor. Thank you again!

Hi Andreas. Thank you for your comment. I use patch to protect my sensor too from time to time. Especially during hot days when I sweat a lot or when I go swimming. I did not see negative impact on my personal readings but I know the manufacturer does recommend not covering the whole. If it works for you the way you are used to with a tape I would not necessarily change your approach. If you see incorrect readings only then it probably makes sense to change the approach. Hope this helps. Have a great day!

Well... I'm not a diabetic patient but i use meters to check which food rises my glucose and which doesn't cause i enjoy doing intermittent fasting and keto sometimes besides, i don't like carbs cause they make my stomach bloat and that means i want to do blood glucose checkup every now and then and precisely after each different type and amount of food consumed, so is it good to use libre or better to stick to my Freestyle Lite!

I've had type 1 for over 37 years & told people back in 1984 that besides being cured of it, the next best thing is to know what your sugar levels are at any time.
