Excellent tutorial thank you! Every time I want to learn how to work on my bike you have already done a video for it! Life saver thanks again!

also worth noting (found out the hard way) that the brake pad screws on Ultegra (possibly other shimano setups) that retain the pads through the calliper body, are made out of cheese and the heads round off as soon as you even look at them with flathead screwy in your hand. Put anti seize or grease on the screws or do what I have since done and swap out screw for 3mm hex. I had to drill out the calliper as the factory fitted screw had seized.
@scottromine49552 жыл бұрын
Also worth noting that EVERY screw on Shimano discs is like this. I've had to drill this one out and the reservoir caps as well, which are super-easy to round out. Thanks for the tip on the 3mm hex.

all other videos talk about the banjo style of hydralic lines. this is exactly what i was looking for (compression style). and i did not know the washer thingy was an called an olive.

2:20 if you don't have the yellow gauge (as me) you just need to make sure the bolt sticks out 13mm from the frame. I looked it up in the Shimano instruction manual. Remember not to use any silver washer when measuring it (with or without the yellow gauge)

Fab video, I have just cracked my reservoir/lever by over tightening the flanged nut connecting the hose to the lever as there was a gap between the nut and the spacer with the torque details on. There was no gap when I removed the nut but after shortening the hose and putting a new olive on this left a 2mm gap like yours shows at 15:30. Is it correct for there to be this gap? Should have watched this before I rushed in!!

the screw hole for hidraulic coupling for this lever is made of plastic, BIG shame for shimano ! very little over tightening will result braking or outrounding the threads in the inside. stupid idea from shimano, again big shame. for 200 dollar lever you basicaly get a piece of shit, sad but true.
@seanmccuen69702 жыл бұрын
@@dosazsolt9725 it's only a 'big shame piece of shit' if you cross-thread and/or OVER tighten the fkn' hose nut, einstein. see how that works?

Thank you for the great video! Where the hose goes into the lever, on the side there is a tiny little grub screw. Mine has a small leak from it. What is this screw for?

I'm gonna try and do mine like I do car clutch hydraulic lines. Gonna attach a long piece of clear tubing on the bleeder nipple and fill the reservoir at the lever, unlock the nipple and just suck the fluid through the line with my mouth like a vacuum and making sure keep the reservoir topped off with fluid so air doesn't enter the line while I'm sucking, thumb it off before fluid gets in my mouth, close the nipple and should be done. Works like a charm for car clutch master and slave cylinder hydraulic lines so I'm gonna try it here. I could be wrong, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the video. I'm replacing the levers and calipers in my bike too, hoses and mineral oil are nor too old but I have two questions. I have a new set of hoses, should I replace it or can I use the same hoses and fitting that the bike already had. Second question, can I re use the mineral oil? My plan is to sell the old parts and it will be good if I can include the new set of hoses and fittings.

On the GRX rear brakes I'm installing (which seam to be identical in process to the Ultegra) there's a retaining clip for the screw that connects at the back of the adapter... how is that thing suppose to go on? Did you put it on and I just missed that part? Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi, nice video as always. I want to ask, what if I want to change new cable to existing caliper? Do I need a special bolt or something on the caliper side?
@ivarbrouwer1975 жыл бұрын
Hi exactly the video I needed, thnx!! - I’m’ installing 105 hydraulic brakes on my Planet X titanium cyclocross picknflick frame but the mounts of the breaks don’t fit the frame. On the front the required screw diameter is bigger then what the mount can have, on the back I need a mount, where there isn’t one + it needs bigger screws too. Not sure what I need to make them fit the frame...
@glennoc85855 жыл бұрын
Shimano sell different lengths i believe.

Hi I’m looking to do a frame swap. I’ve got ultegra di2 disc groupset, but ideally want to keep the cockpit intact - can I removed the hoses from the callipers end, pull through frame then reinstall on new frame? What do I need to do at the calliper end-add a new olive? Not needing to shorten hoses. Thanks
@FreeToCycle4 жыл бұрын
You will have to remove the Olive and pin from the hose to be able to get the nut off the end so you can pull the hydraulic hose through the frame! Then add a new Olive’s to the hoses and re fit them to the calipers.

Hi! Why would use anti-seaze on the mounting bolts and not thread locker? Thanks!
@glennoc85855 жыл бұрын
The bolts from new have thread locker from new. If you rude in damo ir wet places nit a bad idea to put some grease on the thread. I use copper grease on bikes.
@FreeToCycle5 жыл бұрын
Your right there glenny, i would rather put a bit of cooper grease on the thread than have to cut the caliper off with a grinder!

Have you changed out a bike that has rim brakes to disc brakes. I under stand you would not be able to install disc on the back but the front fork could be change out to so you can install disc brakes. Have you don'e this or do you know any body that has done this? where the person that did this happy with the results?

What size rotor have you on the rear 140mm or 160mm and can you use both 140mm or 160mm? Great video 👍
@FreeToCycle5 жыл бұрын
GIDDY GOAT 140 on the front and rear you can go 160 on the front but 140 is plenty for the rear brake.
